LED Bike light conversion projects and information

This page is the main Library of information page for all my Bike Light mods and projects.
There are many links below that lead every info page on this web site
If you get lost in the library, just return to this page.
All pages have a link at the top of the page that points back to this page.

Note that I do not offer technical support for any of the mods on my web site.
Please do not email me and ask me to send you a parts list of everything it takes to make a light.
There are a couple helpful parts list links on this page.

The best way to learn is to look at my mod pages and then you will understand exactly what it takes to assemble or mod a light.
Once you know what you need, chances are you understand how to put it all together
I sell many of the parts used on my mod pages on my web store.
Check out my web store link at the top of this page for LED parts.

Note: All the Marwi lights I build and all the Marwi mods below run on 3.6 volt lithium Ion battery packs.
You must run my designs on 3.6 volt battery packs.
I do not make or have any driver designs for higher voltage battery packs

I get asked all the time, "How can I run these lights on 7.2, or higher voltage battery packs"
The short answer is: "I don't know"
You can go to the MTBR DIY lights forum to get help with questions like that
There are lots of smart people on this forum that experiment with many different driver designs
Here's a link to the MTBR DIY light forum.

Info on the Marwi view point light bodies I use for LED conversions

Image

This is a picture of just part of the huge stash of Marwi halogen lights I discovered and purchased
I have several more boxes not shown in the photo above.
These lights were found piled all together in big boxes at the Marwi USA warehouse.
They were no longer being sold because they were old school halogen lights.
I purchased the complete New old stock inventory from Marwi USA.
There is some minor cosmetic damage on some of the bodies from being shipped all together in big boxes.
Cosmetic damage would be slight scratches and scuff marks, but nothing serious.
Just giving everyone a heads up in case you receive a light and wonder why there is a small bit of cosmetic damage.

Image

There are the two styles of Marwi light bodies
The older style is more of a bell shape
The new style is more of a bullet shape

This page has more info on the two body styles

These lights are new old stock and being recycled because they are still a great platform for LED lights
I tear these lights apart and re-use the bodies
I sell several of the parts that I remove from these lights on my web store.
Some of the parts I remove and sell are:
MR11 - 6 volt halogen bulbs
MR11 ceramic receptacle and Judco switch
Old style Marwi handlebar mounts
External handle bar switch housing with Judco SPST switch
I also sell both styles of Marwi light bodies

I have converted many Marwi View Point halogen lights to LED bike lights
These lights were sold by Performance and on the Marwi USA web site as 6 volt Halogen bicycle lights.

The Marwi lights have progressed through many different development phases.
This page contains links to many pages of info on how these lights have progressed to their current state

Down below I have more info on the two body styles and how I convert them to LED lights

Here is a couple pictures of a XML LED Marwi light

This is a new design as of 12/2011
I just picked up the new heat sinks from a machine shop that allow these lights to be converted to XML LED lights
I have been testing one of these lights for several weeks of night riding and I really like the design

These proved to be a much better design than my first Battery holder prototypes

Assembling the new style 4 x 18650 Battery Holders

Note that the battery holder style below proved to be too much labor for most folks to assemble.
Another problem was that people were cranking down the big nut way too much
This would rip the threaded end right out of the battery holder.
I have discontinued making the battery holder below.

Improving the clicky switch performance
Click on the images for a larger image

The clicky switches I used in some of my mods can be greatly improved by adding more terminals to the switches.
More terminals = more contact surface area, more current carrying capability and greater reliability.

Original Switch replacement on Marwi lights - Judco SPST switch with Rubber boot
The old Marwi lights had a halogen bulb with a ceramic bulb base and wire assembly.
The wires were crimped to the switch contacts and it was difficult to remove all the halogen stuff without messing up the switch contacts.
This switch has 4.5" leads and made it much easier to replace in my SSC P7 Marwi conversions.
I stock the Judco switches and boots on my web store if you need to replace this switch.
