As I see it there are at least two brands of 5879's available. The question I have, is there enough difference between the two major brands that I should seek a certain brand? In your opinion which one is sweeter? More dependable? Value?

I've got several different brands and I can't tell one being "better"

Get a nice non-microphonic 5879, don't worry about the brand.

I've got many brands and you can't necessarily go by that as you might know? The construction for these are mainly of two types; one has two and the other has three mica insulators. The ones that I like have the triple mica design.

Thank you all for your input. There is an old electronics store near me that still sells tubes and he has a couple RCA 5879's. I don't know if they are two or three mica dividers but the price seems fair. They are a couple dollars more than I can get them on line but at least I don't have to pay shipping. I just wondered if there was one I should really stay away from and at this point seems like any will do.
Thanks.

Sounds like you're lucky to be able get them close by. I must say that if there isn't actually much difference. They all sound great and w/out microphonics since they are a lower gain tube than an EF86.

BTW when I went back to buy the tube they had both Silvania and RCA the RCA has the 3 mica spacers so I bought it.
Thanks for the info.
