Hey guys! Getting ready to build the ToreT ReVibe using a Hoffman board. Never built a ReVibe and never used a Hoffman board before. Are there any must knows before I start soldering? I've checked out the pictures in Doug's library, and read a couple threads, and I'm ready to start melting some metal on this one!
-
simple advise:
Follow Doug's Directions to the T and you won't have issues
It's nice when some one else has went done all the head scratching and cussing for you.
Great project too!

I made my revibe pre tore t mod. After the Tore T mod My revibe runs dead quite. If I were to build another revibe I would use a cap can on the outside of the chassis. While the caps will fit inside the chassis, it is a tight fit. Just MY 2$
Happy building
-
Thanks for the tips guys!
-
The Revibe is probably the most complicated board to build on my web site
Go slow and don't skip over anything and plan to come back to it later
-
I noticed that there's no grid resistors on the input and infact has very little almost through out. Is this project built w/out them just the way it shows?
Doug or anyone: are there any soundclips of the unit? This may be exactly what I've been wanting and pondering lately for something different to do.
Lastly, From what I see, the guitar in goes into revibe unit then the normal input of the regular amp du'jour - but how about it being inserted between the send/return jacks?
-
Amen it is tight! Pay lots of attention to the grounding don't sway from the way it is layed out. And in my case get a good reverb pan. See my post on the reverb transformer. Color code or mark you wires that come from the bottom of the board. It can not be taken apart once done, not with out major work.

Doug or anyone: are there any soundclips of the unit
Clips, sure
How about my sound clips page link from the library page
http://www.el34world.com/Misc/Music/music1.htm
About 5/8ths the way down
Re-Vibe project clips
Here's a couple links to some clips that sound great, IMO
Or go to the page above to play the clips on the page without downloading them
This one shows off the Vibe and reverb

This one has huge reverb splash

I must've missed it, thanks. I always love hearing your tunes and wish I wasn't so "recording challenged". :embarrassed:
-
The request for clips reminded me of this video. It's not a Re-Vibe, but a 6G15.
They even named the tune "6G15". Anyway, I think it's a fun video...

Thanks for all the tips guys! I've built a number deluxe reverb amps using the bias vary trem, and have built the stand-alone verb a couple times. But this guy sure crams a lot of stuff in that little chassis! I'm trying to be extra careful with the layout, like 67polara said, I assumed I wouldn't be able to backtrack easily. Thanks again, and I'll come back with build reports.

If you wanna see mine:

I have other pics, but didn't put them on the Web. Let me know if you wish to see others.
It's a Hoffman/ToreT Revibe and it's f....g dead quiet now. I would say that it wasn't my hardest build, the Brown Vibrasonic 6G13-A replica
I made two years ago was a lot more challenging
Very happy having done both!!
Take your time, be patient, good build and BR,
Danskman

 It was cool, a little scary, quirky, sexy, and I felt I couldn't stop watching sort of like a car wreck and w/ a good ending "ta' boot" Thanks Boots.
ps - was that Corey Miller the tatoo artist playing guitar?! (even though he plays drums it looked just like him).

Nice to see bands doing surf
They were ok, but Los Straightjackets are the kings of surf, IMO
-
I loved that vid!
really liked that sparkle Tele with a bigsby trem!
its as I imagined my next guitar project, except I'll paint mine silver sparkle `ala Don Rich.
Growing up I always thought Don had the coolest guitar in the world.

Nice to see bands doing surf
Dick Dale still lives a town away & he still gets it done. His son will carry the torch for him maybe someday? Where I live there's a lot of surf bands. In the summer months there's always bands playing free concerts @ the local surf museum and down @ pier plaza on the other side of that little pic you see.

Dick Dale rules
Saw him live many years ago
It was a great show
-
One time a while back he had a free show in a mall parking lot before the whole thing got re-developed. It only seems like he uses the heavies guage strings and a 2ml pick the way he hammers his Strat. He's always a good showman, very humble and greatful and w/ his son you can tell he's really setting a good example for him while pushing hum a bit to continue his efforts in music. He really has/had a great history w/ Leo and helped build Fender amps into the rock solid amps they became. I'm sure you know the history but it's good reading for others that may not. Here's something I copied from Markely that's not too long. He just had an operation and hospital stay last month (cancer related?) and was supposed to continue his tour in Japan. He's eager to continue when he recovers.
"Dick Dale, known as the “King of Surf Guitar” since the early Sixties, has experienced a huge resurgence in popularity since his aggressive guitar playing was featured in the hit film “Pulp Fiction”. Now playing concerts for thousands of fans around the world, Dick claims that Dean Markley Blue Steel Electric strings are the only strings capable of standing up to his shredding style of playing.
He is the godfather, creator, master, and god of surf and power rock and roll. And if it wasn’t for Dick Dale, Leo Fender may never have such a good amp. Dick Dale invented surf music in the 50’s, just in time for Leo Fender to bestow upon him his latest creation: the Fender Stratocaster electric guitar and Fender Amp. Dick had such an obsession with playing so loud that he went through 49 of these Fender Amps before Leo created something better.
When asked why he played so loud he said, “I want to create the sound of Gene Krupa the famous jazz drummer that created the sounds of the native dancers in the jungles along with the roar of mother nature’s creature’s and the roar of the ocean.”
Equipped with his upside-down, backwards Fender Strat, he continued to break rules, ear drums, and every amp Leo gave him. This lead to Leo creating a bigger, more powerful amp and this was what Dick used to rock the music world. Dick Dale has done it all, and he has a Life Time Achievement Award to prove it."

BTW, On this forum he is also known as Thingie Dale
Anyone remember that?
-
Wow i really like the Love Hurts clip it sounds so full. Pretty amazing unit.
-
I still have that Revibe
I still need to make a box for it
It's been on the todo list for a long time.

You have unfinished projects??? Hopefully the orders, building, website maintenance, recording, bikes, wifey time, etc. don't all get in the way!?

I have a long list of stuff to do, but I shove stuff further down the list that is not pressing.
-
I just broke out the ReVibe and my AB763 amp to do this tune

Cool clip Doug. You got some more Shads songs in there?

shads songs?

Doug, did you ever do any of ENNIO MORRICONE's spagetti western themes? Good reverb and trem on the guitars. And speaking of spagetti, did you ever see this group? Looks like they have a good time.

Ha, that vid is pretty cool.
Who'd a thunk that someone would be doing spag westerns as a gig.
I think I figured out that tubeswell meant The Shadows ????
If so, I am really not familiar with that group.
I think it was more of a Euro, english thing
Growing up in the US, I heard tons of Ventures records because my Dad belonged to the RCA record club and he liked the Ventures.
I was a die hard Ventures fan and am not very familiar with the Shadows stuff.

Here is a cool vid where Dick Dale talks about the early days:

was there ever a tube/tremolo version of this instead of vibrato?
