Title: I finally sold one of my amps
Post by: bigdaddy on September 24, 2010, 04:42:36 am
Well since I could not use the amps I built because they were too loud I sold them on ebay. I was going to part them all out, I couldn't, it was hard enough packing the things and getting them to FedEx. With the help of my 78 year old mom I did it. So I ended up selling most of the amps as non working projects although they worked perfectly. I felt my work was not as good as the amp builders here and I could not offer support if the user had any issues.

One guy bought one and another guy ended up buying the rest I was selling at the time(I have a few more still), he loves Champ amps. In the last 2 days I received emails from them saying how awesome the amps sound. They are delighted with them and mentioned how good my work is. I again have to thank so many here who helped me learn and build those amps. Building amps kept me sane for that time period in my life.

I can't explain the feeling I got receiving such glowing responses about my builds. I knew they sounded good but when other players complemented them that's a feeling I never had. I fix guitars but I don't really build them other then the ones I built from Warmoth and USACG parts. It's an amazing feeling to have built and sold a working amp and have the person respond like that. I mean these guys were ecstatic, part of that could be the price  which was well below what they should have gone for as custom built amplifiers.

Anyway I just want to thank everyone here. I have had disagreements with some but they still provided me with information I used and I wish to thank them too, Like I said EVERYBODY. It's just an amazing feeling, now I know how some of you who do build amps for others and sell them feel....wow....is all I can say pretty much.

I found it really emotionally hard to part with the first amp I built, so kudos to you for letting go. On the same account, its wonderful to get praise from satisfied purchasers.  Kudos to you for that too.

Big Daddy I know that feelin'!

I've been addicted to that feeling since a teenager. I get it when I create something special for someone out of a pile of nuthing.

I've done steel fabrication, woodworking, tailoring and now tube elctronics (at least a dozen more mediums).

I feel so proud of my acomplishments when someone I considder knowledgable in that field gives a genuine compliment.

It's even better when they discover the "hidden" qualities in your work that usually go unoticed by novices.

I love when someone of knowledge asks "how'd you do that?" or "where'd you buy that?"

I know its "shallow" to gage your self worth by someone elses opinions, but when you know you've done good work and a person who knows quality work compliments it feels very DEEP.

NOW having sold an amp AND having high reviews, I think that officially qualifies you to considder yourself a "Boutique Amp Builder" and not feel like you're BSing  yourself or anyone else.

Start your portfolio now. If you have any pics of the amp you sold, print it off on some nice photo paper, print off the schematic, type up some notes on mods you made or maybe some features you designed into that amp and most important, print off your testimonial you recieved!

Even if no one else see the portfolio, you can revisit it any time and remember.

Hats off to you Big Daddy!

You're a Pro now no lie!

I know what you are feeling! It's a sense of pride and accomplishment that you get from doing good work.
I don't even have an amp of my own except a Custom Vibrolux that I modded.Every amp I build for myself, someone hears it and has to have it.I am having a hard time keeping one for myself!

  Good work Big Daddy!

Congrats on the good feedback!

I can't elaborate how badly I wanted to buy that 4x8 cab/chassis and several of the other champ & Allen items you had for sale...

....  stupid economy....

Congrats man!!

This feeling is awesome! Specially when the players do PLAY and appreciate how responsive the amps are!

Best regards

Oh yeah, 'tis satisfying. A lot of blood, sweat and tears can go into these builds; they all come with a story and they all have their own character, regardless of it being the umteenth Champ you've built. Sounds like it found a good home and that makes the post partem feelings thinkg easier.

So no matter how bad you feel on any given day Bigdaddy--and you likely have some pretty crummy days--you have enriched someone's tone. Awesome. Regards

Congrats!
I totally understand.
Sometimes I hardly make diddly on an amp but it's nice knowing someone is out there enjoying it.

Also, thanks for all of your input and wealth of info shared here on this board!
