Title: Mars OD special "idea"
Post by: tubenit on October 08, 2010, 05:17:42 pm
Guys,

Any thoughts on this one?   Another option would be to use a James tone stack with dual gang 500k pots off the cathode follower?

I think it might be possible to capture a Marshall type sound and then kick in a really smooth creamy OD on top of that.

With respect, Tubenit

EDIT: I think one of the forum members tried something similar but with a Marshall tone stack but I don't remember the outcome of how it turned out?

I believe that Stingray 65 moved his tone to the same location as you have here.  Check with him as to how it works.  It seems to make sense to me not to have two tone controls in the line when in od.  This will keep the first stage from coloring the Overdrive channel, I think.

I had planned on doing the same thing when the rest of my parts get here if they ever do.  The only change I plan on is using the Moonlight tone system instead.  It is supposed to have less interaction between the volume and the tone control.
