I will keep this short
My 2000 Chevy truck
I left my wipers on one night
we had a 4 inch snow fall that night
I came out started my truck to warm it up as I cleaned off the snow
The wipers tried to move and could not so I burnt out the VTS diode on he wiper circuit board
cost $95.00 for new board
I keep the old board I know I could replace the diode for less than $3.00
Here is the board
and damaged diode

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transient_voltage_suppression_diode
A transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode is an electronic component used to protect sensitive electronics from voltage spikes induced on connected wires. It is also commonly referred to as a transorb, after the brand name TransZorb registered by General Semiconductor (now part of Vishay). STMicroelectronics sells them under the name Transil. The name Tranzil can also be seen.
LT stands for Linear Technologies
I keep hitting a brick wall finding a replacement
found this on ebay

found this
no 12 volt

You don't use a 12V protector in a truck with 12.6V nominal 14.4V charging voltage, careless 24V jump-starts, and protecting 35V components.
5KP16 will protect the other stuff, just don't take any double-battery jump-starts (all car makers advise against this; but it is a good way to get your bulldozer or 1967 Chevy going quick).
WHY do you think this diode has failed? Straining the wiper-motor won't do that. I would be thinking relay, PCB trace, or just the darn fuse. Or of course motor windings, but I assume you have hot-wired the motor and seen it work.

The DIODE is burnt in half
That is a picture I found
If the wipers are held down when the switch is on the board goes bad
If you shut you car off at night and don't turn the wipers off and the wipers freez or get snow covered
dead board if you start your car to get it warm inside before you go to work
They should make a car
turn off the key all systems are off
I remember the 60's getting into the car next morning
if the radio was real loud you must have got smashed last night
I am going to try a slow blow fuse [ IN THE SPRING ] and see if it works for a back up
