Title: I ordered a new guitar
Post by: EL34 on March 04, 2011, 09:08:43 am
I don't expect too many people to get exited about this, but I ordered a JS2400 24 fret guitar a few days ago.
I am exited because I have been wanting the 24 fret model since it first came out a year or so ago.

I am getting it from the same guy I got mt JS1200CA from
Rich does an awesome job setting up new guitars

I am getting the platinum setup which takes a stock guitar and makes it an awesome playing instrument.
I sent a set of the strings I use so he can set everything up correctly.
A bunch of things have to be changed to be able to use 11-48 strings

It's the white one on this page
http://www.ibanezrules.com/new/js2400.htm

I already own the red one which is a JS1200CA
http://www.ibanezrules.com/new/js1200ca.htm

This is the service level details that Rich offers.

Here's a video of Joe explaning how the 24 fret came about

I think it is very cool.  I like Joe S. and Steve Vai.  I like the tone that they both get.  It is a different tone but good.  I have always liked Ibanez instruments.  The Fujiken (SP?) made ones are fantastic instruments.  I always wanted a floral print JEM.  I see them on ebay from time to time.  I aint buying an expensive used guitar without playing it!  Have fun with the new score.

Hey Doug,

I'm glad you were able to get what you wanted. That trem I would have a hard time gettin used, both size and look but to each his own. I'm stuck in the past looks wise.

I've been looking at some Reverand guitars, the one with 3 P90's and a trem, (in a cream or blue) but thats about as modern looking as I could go.

I've heard some of your recordings and you can play and then some, so you know what you like.

I looked at the setup details and it sounds very good, what he does, to say the least. I've played a few guitars that had too sharp of an edge on the fretboard. I felt it right away, was very uncomfortable. Those little details make a big differance, to me any way.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your new gal for many years to come.

WOW! Very nice looking guitar! Two more frets. That's 12 more notes to learn. I gotta know... Did they put the extra frets at the high end or the low end?

How cool is that!     So many times I've been playing and just wished I could throw in a low end dropped D without actually de-tuning like those slick banjer pickers.   Did I mention it's Mardi Gras? Crew of Columbus tonight!    :occasion14:

I'm not sure I agree, but I have quite a few customers who complain that 24 fret guitars put the neck pickup in the wrong place, so they sound wrong.

Nice guitar!  It will pair up nicely with your red one!

I bought a 24 fret Ibanez Artist in 1982.  They only made it for a year.  It was one of the nicest guitars I've owned and I wish I still had it....

Here it is, the black one -

Joe does not let his signature guitars get built until he is happy with them.
And since he plays them, you can bet they are right.
He is not going to settle for something that does not work.
The pickup issue is discussed in this video if you want to take the time to hear what Joe has to say.

Nice guitar!  I like DiMarzio pickups & use them in my home spun guitars.

With respect, Tubenit

The Fujiken (SP?) made ones are fantastic instruments.

Fujigen gakki
Excellent instruments.
The legend continues via Ibanez.

Matsumoku are damn fine products too even after 30 years.
RIP

Nice axe Doug!
Have fun.

I have played ibanez ever since my first "real" electric, a 1987 RG550. It was waaayy uncool in 1996, floyd rose and all...so the price was in line with my teenage hash-house budget. Still have it, still love it.
7 years later I got an 2003 SZ320, basically the PRS knock-off. Strung with 12s, duncan phat-cats, bone nut. Still have it, still love it.
Last week I scored a 2007 XPT700 (xiphos, not the 27 fret model or 7-string) at the local pawn shop. All but mint condition, red chameleon, dimarzio d-activators. Now I have a proper RAWK! guitar. Smokes like Cheech, Chong, the Zig-Zag man, Snoop Dogg, and George Burns huddled in a crematorium punishing a nargila.

Awesome pick, Doug. I'm sure it plays as pretty as it looks.

It's hard to get people interested in Ibanez guitars
They can't seem to get past the shape of the headstock.

I picked the red JS1200CA back in 2006 because the body was Strat like and the pickups were more like vintage humbuckers.

I don't like the squared off egded guitars like Les Pauls and Tele's
I always like the carved body feel of a Strat.
It just fits up against your body better and looks cool.

The Satriani signature models take that carved body thing way farther than a Strat.
It is one of the most comfortable, lightesr and coolest guitar bodies I have ever played.

The new guitar should feel the same as the old one.

The old guitar needs to be torn down again and gone over, it's been played a bunch in the last 5 years.

I played a late 70's Ibanez Artist  that was just a dream. I went back to buy it the next day and it was already snapped up. Really bummed me out... it was just exactly what I had been looking for.

Years later in my shop one of my customers is saying about the nicest guitar he ever bought was this Ibanez at Coffey Music. Talk about a small world! He complains that it's too heavy for him to play much, but refuses to sell it to me.  Anyway, I wish I could have seen my own face when I realized he was the one that beat me out of it!

I hear ya, on Teles especially.
LPs bodies don't bother me all that much, I suppose because the arched top......but that damn switch gets in the way!
For body comfort, definitely Strats and the like.

Will your new white guitar turn color later?
I suppose Ibanez guitars don't do that.

Ibanez has always had good workmanship, so I would expect that.  Their aesthetic is not mine (at least not for their solid body guitars - I love their archtops and semi-hollows), but they do good work.

It's not a factory stock Ibanez guitar anymore.
Factory Stock guitars can be a crap shoot. (If you are picky about the frets and fretboard precision)

A factory stock guitar is probably ok in most cases.

The guy I get mine from takes a stock guitar and tunes it to a super high level.
I doubt anyone but high end guitar makers take the time to provide the level of detail that Rich does in his platinum setup package.

It's amazing the difference between a stock guitar and one that has been fine tuned.

Now that I have to tear down my JS1200CA.
It needs some major attention after 6 years of playing.

Hey Doug,

Sounds like you have a great axe tech.  I hope you have a great time with it and wear it out.

All the best,

Larry

Yeah wearing it out is the part that sucks.
But that part of it all.

I played the JS1200CA until I flatened the frets and it needed a fret level.
I did the fret level about a year ago.

Now the trem needs some attention.
Me like the trem alot.  :icon_biggrin:

The trem pivot points get mis shaped from rubbing together.
The fact that I use 11-48 and use 4 springs puts even more pressure on the trem pivits.

The knife edges need to be re-shaped
The studs loose that V shaped valley that the knife edge rest in.

It's an easy fix, but it's another tear down for this guitar.

Tore down the red JS1200CA today.
Had to fix several small things.

It's back up and running great.

Here's a pic of the JS1200CA next to the new JS2400.
