Title: New parts list feature on web store
Post by: EL34 on March 06, 2011, 11:47:18 am
You are now able to create Private Parts List from all the parts shown in your shopping cart.
Once you have created a Private parts list, you can add all the parts on that list to your shopping cart with one button click

I also have Public parts list that anyone can see and use.
The Public Parts List page is here
http://www.hoffmanamps.com/MyStore/catalog/PartsListIndex.htm (http://www.hoffmanamps.com/MyStore/catalog/PartsListIndex.htm)

You have to login to be able to create and use Private Parts List.
You can only login if you have previously created a User Name and Password.
You can only create a User Name and Password when you are checking out of my shopping cart.
This prevents robots and A-holes from creating user names and causing problems.
Only customers that are creating real orders can create a user name and password.

A parts list is not a temporary list, it is a list of parts that gets used over and over again.
There's no need to create a parts list for one time orders.
If you order the same parts over and over again, you can create a parts list of those parts.
You could also use it as a BOM
You can add a note to your parts list that describes what it is
Note Example: All the parts to make a bias checker

There are also Public Parts list.
if you want one of your Private parts list to also be a Public list, just email me and I will copy it over into the public parts list folder.

Examples of parts list:
All the parts (that I stock) for the Tweed Overdrive or
Some customers order the same parts over and over again, so they could make themselves a parts list and use it later.

On private parts List, I made it so that each parts list is collapsed so save screen space
When you click on the parts list header, all the parts on that list shows up below the header
That way, you only see the parts list you are interested in.
Update: 10/29/2014: You can now delete any of your private parts list

There are quantity boxes so you can change quantitites or remove items you do not want to order.
The parts on each Public Parts list are just suggestions.
If you want different knobs, different brand caps, carbon comp resistors, etc, you will have to make all those changes yourself.

Here is the current Public Parts List page

Really looks great!  I think this is very cool.

Kinda sorta like ordering a kit except much better quality parts and parts dealer.

A question I have is:  IF someone wanted Ivory instead of black knobs since ivory knobs definitely have much better tone (just kidding) and Joe Bonnamassa only uses ivory knobs because of the mojo in ivory, then could they change that one item in the order?  Or if they decided on a different filter cap for example.

I am presuming this would go into your order form and then could be updated inside that?  I am thinking about this correctly?

Thanks, Jeff

yes, any changes over the stock list would have to be made by the user.
The parts on the list are just suggestions with the correct quantities.

I have 6 colors of chicken head knobs
No telling what color knob or even what type knob someone wants.
If someone wants a different color then they should go to the knobs page
If they want Marshall knobs, they should go add some Marshall knobs.
The knobs are just a place holder saying that you need knobs and how many.

Just like the caps, what if someone does not want to use Sprague?

I can't make parts list that has every type of cap, every type of knob, every type of pot, etc

The quantity boxes are there so you can remove parts from the list that you already have or don't want to order

Great idea!

I'm sure you get tired of hearing this, but thanks for maintaining the web site and forum, and thanks to all the regular posters here. I don't post much but follow lots of links and read lots of posts.

Still narrowing down choices for my first build.

I'm late to the game with this feature, but it's very handy. It's much like the one Mouser has in their .project manager'. I'll be able to pick off the parts as I choose to buy them. Excellent!
