Finally got my cab finished for my new 5E3 build. I think this is my new favorite amp (so far).
It is Red Oak and Canary with Ebony accents, with clear laquer finish. I did a black grain filler on the front panel to make the wood grain stand out. Finger jointed the corners. I will post a few photos.

Nice work! In addition to electronics, I enjoy woodworking, particularly collecting old hand tools -- planes, chisels, etc. After years of doing these things separately, it's only recently occurred to me that I might combine these interests and do some amp building. I'll try it in all the spare time I have raising 2 kids, working, practicing, gigging...

That's a knockout! Really pretty. How did you do the front panel of the amp chassis?

Excellent taste and workmanship. Nothing is as beautiful as wood when done like that Ed.

The chassis is aluminum and I didn't want to leave it natural, or paint it. I already had the holes drilled so I didn't think I could have a faceplate made that would retrofit, so I did a search for holographic stickers. I finally wound up in the area of supplies for making fishing lures before I found what I liked. They have the stuff in a multitude of colors. Bad thing is the largest I could find was 2" short so I wound up with a splice. It is not noticable unless you get real close.
Thanks guys for the complements. That amp took awhile for me to finish. Building amp is kinda addictive, I just finished that one and already I am thinking of my next project LOL

Now I'm even more knocked out by your work. I was convinced you had some sort of textured panel on there or something. Very cool. Thanks for explaining.

Sweet looking....What speaker cabinet are you running it through???

I only have one speaker cab right now it is a fender supersonic that has 2 vin30's. I was thinking of making a matching cab with red oak and using a single vin30. Not sure why but I have always liked the sound of a closed back speaker over an open back. I know that most tweeds are open back but it sounds good to me with the closed back cab.

Damn I couldn't take that to ANY of my gigs! I'd be afraid to move it! Nice job man. I dig the dovetail thing. That says solid to me. How many watts is a 5E3?

About 12 I think, its what I use at rehearsal.. With a semihollow ibanez I have with humbucks and a bigsby type bridge, cranked it'll feedback sustain for like ever. (Like Nigel would say, go and get a sandwich and its still like aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh). Not enough headroom for me to gig with, but its one of my favorite amps to play, from warm to crunch with the guitar volume knob, everyone should have one... :D

Greetings mates!
My brother in law has asked me to build him an amp for home use and requested a "woodie" look.
I determined that a 5E3 type circuit would be just right for the application and when I started searching for cabinet guidance I came across this thread. Looks to be just what the doctor ordered!!
Any chance that plans for this build (or similar) and/or the pictures are still around?
Thanks as always,
Dave O.
