Title: AA165 circuit in a 5F6A chassis?
Post by: Madison on March 09, 2011, 06:57:55 pm
Got a guy asking for this set up.
I am thinking, add another preamp tube (move the speaker jacks) and SPST volume pots should get him close to what he is looking for?
Thanks

Why ? ? ?

What's wrong with a 5F6A in a 5F6A chassis?

an AA165 belongs in a bass amp,not a 5F6A. If the guy wants to ruin a perfectly good bassman to make a mediocre bassman then I would not do the job.Thats my 2 cents worth.

Maybe I should have wrote, "I am thinking about doing this for a customer to save some hassle and time"
He is not requesting to ruin a perfectly good 5F6A.I was just thinking to cram all that circuit in to a new build.
Oh well.
Forget about it.
Peace.

In this case it really depends on what sound he is looking for.If it's for bass, then by all means go with your first choice. If it's for guitar use the bassman AA864 circuit. It's probably the best blackface bassman circuit out there.
