Thats for the acoustic set he would play by himself halfway thur the show, back before those dang acoustic pickups. :cussing: &tracker=False I saw him 3 times, first time in 76 (?) at the Aragon in Chgo. He must've played 2 to 2 1/2 hours. :bravo1:
One of my best buds back then used to put it like this "Rory wearin a brand new pair of Wrangler jeans, flannel shirt, and for a light show his roadies standin behind his amps holdin flash lights, none a that glam rock, makeup wearin, bull pucky." :l3:
Later on in life, (86/87?) when I was hangin out at some blues clubs, I got to have a few beers with him, on a few different nights. :occasion14: He was on tour and was spending a little down time between shows in Chgo. He was a very nice guy. As firey as he was on stage he was much the gentle, soft spoken man. As for drinking, (considering he was an Irish blues/rocker) from what I saw, he did'nt drink much and no drugs.
At the time I had no idea what to ask him about amps and guitars, wish I could talk to him now! :think1: I did say to him that I liked his tweed amp tone the best, he was into playin Marshalls and other amps by then. He seemed a little sad and said that he was hearing that a lot.

Fantastic! Drinking in a bar with Rory! More tales like that please.
Earlier today Pullshocks was asking about my old 70s British amps and one of those amps was reportedly bought by Rory in an all gold version! Well, I have never been able to verify that story. While I can understand that Clapton having had one, I cannot see Rory with a 24ct gold amp, can you?

I would'nt realy call it drinkin, :d2: like I said he did'nt drink much, not that I saw. It was a blues bar and he was just havin a few while listening to who ever was playin those nights. One night after the bar closed, 4/5 in the morning, he went out to breakfest with a bunch of us who worked at the club/bar, including the owner. You never would have known he was'nt a "regular" if not for his Irish brok. (is that how you spell it?) No tall tails of the road, no bragging about himself, none. We all talked about the old Chgo. blues men, how he liked Chgo. stuff like that, he talked some about how he first heard the blues, how it was hard to get the records in Ireland in the early 60's. It's been a long time so it's hard to remember, but nothing stands out in my memory, sorry. Every body seemed to like him. Out side of his gifting of talent for music, he was just a regular guy. Like I said, after seeing him on stage, you might think he'd be kinda "wild" but I/we never saw that. I read the book that his bass player Jerry Macavoy wrote about him and that's what he said too, and he would know.
Oh , my buddy, Steve Arvey, used to go down to Maxwell St. (it was in the Blues Brothers movie, were John Lee was playin and Areatha and Matt Murphy had the grill) and buy old Dano wreaks for parts. On Rorys last day in town for the tour we went down to say goodby to him and my friend gave him several bodies/necks. Rory wanted to pay him but Steve would'nt hear of it.
Now I did get hammered with Bonnie Raits bass player and drummer once, :d3: but that's another post/story. :m13
