Title: 6V6 pin 1

Is the pin 1 of 6V6 normally connected to the pin 8 which is cathode?
If not can the pin 1 be used for other purposes like for grid resistor?

pin 1 of the 6V6GTA is not connected to anything (according to my spec sheet).  Older versions may be different.

Use it at your convenience if it's a glass tube. Here's what Fender did in the '60s. I like it.

In a metal 6V6 (only), pin 1 is connected to the metal shell.

I bet most guitar players have never seen a metal 6V6 or 6L6 in person.

If I'm not mistaken, I have a metal can 6F6 floating around somewhere.

I got a heap of metal RCA 6V6 for peanuts. They sound great to me, so long as you can keep them cool with conservative voltages

If the amplifier was only ever going to see glass 6V6's, Pin 1 on the valve socket could be used as an extra tag. Good practice would dictate not using it though, just in case andrew_k bought the amp, and plugged in his metal 6V6's.

Also if someone decided to try some EL34's in that amplifier, the results might not be what they expected.

I'm sure Andrew wouldn't do that though . . .  :icon_biggrin:

That was one of the reasons why I asked this?
OK, the OT is not matched to EL34's but that can be fixed by changing the load (speaker).

You asked specifically about a 6V6. I think it's reckless to plug an EL34 into a 6V6 socket. The people who originally designed these amps would probably 'turn over' if they saw someone plugging in a tube just 'cause it fits the socket.   :huh:

Yes, I agree with you but you cannot know/prevent what people do with the amps you have built.
It's quite common that people switch tubes like EL34, 6L6, 5881, 6550... and even 6V6 with each other.

One of my mod platforms (some old Knight amp) came with KenRad metal 6V6 "tubes". They were not terribly impressive, as I recall and much more difficult to discern of the plates were red plating. Heh.
