What is a "bell cover"? Does it actually do anything or is it just for looks? They sell the same speaker -P12N- at $20 more w/bell. I can't see paying an extra 40 bucks just so your Twin looks purdy from the back.

Yeah, I think they're just for looks. They might provied a small amount of shielding and protection for the back of the speaker.
If you can't fit the speaker in the cab because of the bell cap guys take them off, Leo did it to 1 of the 3-10" speakers in the tweed bandmaster.
And yeah it seems like a lot just for a cover.

The bell is just for looks. It simply covers the magnet, perhaps giving the impression that the magnet is much larger than it really is. Here's a pic of a P12N in my 5E3. Had to remove the bell to fit.

Absolutely correct just for looks (same thang as beauty rings and hubcaps on yer Chevette) and just as functional :l4: gotta love the new smileys
