Title: The amp I had been working on yjm mod
Post by: Tone Junkie on May 23, 2011, 09:30:40 pm
Here is the amp I had been working on for which I have asked questions regarding the high gain stuff. I would have put it up right away when asking but the format was messed up on my computer. This amp kicks some major ass. Here is the pre amp side it was put up on the internet so shouldnt be a problem.
if anyone wants the power amp side I will put it up.
Thanks Bill

Hi tone,Have you constructed this amp. The sound clip on metro sounds dam good. This got me thinking, every one goes on about the marshall 18w ( which i have the parts for) so i thinking about this preamp with the 18w power amp. Thanks

Nice schem.  It would be nice to see that power amp as well.

There are threads on both Metro and Amp Garage about this.  There is a clip posted, but not a lot of info on others building it.  I would definitely like to hear more of what Junkie thinks of it.

Note that this is not the schematic for Marshall's YJM model.

I built it without the effects loop I think it rocks i think there is a big jump in oomph from the first channel to the 2nd so i was going to change some things around as soon as I get parts in today or tommorow first the plate resister on the first stage 100k and on the second 150k there is to large of a jump going to the second stage I am going to switch this around and see if it levels it out some on the 3rd. stage with the 10k I parralleled the left over gain stage with this one giving it its own cathode resister at 4.7k I wish I wouldve asked all my high gain questions first I would have parrelleled the 1st stage instead Im going to go with a conductive plastic 2 watt pot on the 2nd gain, I put a miniature alpha there the noise level jumps greatly right at that point most likely the pot. I also have an issue with the master volumes affecting each other which I probably created the way I wired it but I have one side of a relay doing nothing so when I go back in Im going to make it switch instead floating across both pots in the wiring. It should take care of all my issues, here is how I did the board with merlins wiring scheme. I will definatly build this one again for myself I had some jtm45 plates they were the blues breaker with tremolo ,This was the first amp I thought I wanted so I bought them and never got around to it wasnt really the tone i was chasing after all. It had enough holes for what I needed so it has a resonance pot and a master volume to, the next time I will probably go with a fixed resonance because its easy enough to put my cap decade box on and dial it in saving a mounting hole but I had to fill it with something no tremolo in this one, there are some other things Im mulling over. I would give clips but Im just no good at that sort of thing I have the software just never got over the learning curve to make it sound good.Oh I also have kt66 output tubes in this one I like the sound of these they rock.
Thanks Bill

Thanks Jerry Im getting better I pay attention to what you guys are doing and try and copy.
You know if only my wiring job looked like Joey,s every time i see one of his wired up amps Im in awe its like artwork it has better lines than a Lambergini .   :worthy1: :worthy1: :occasion14: :headbang:
