I bought one of these Crate's a few years ago. 150 dollars, shipped to my house. As part of my education, I tried every mod on Steve Ahola's web-site. All sorts of "mods" tried and retried. The PCB is pretty wiped out now, some lifted traces, stuff like that.
I am wondering if there is any reason I cannot ditch the PCB and make some kind of 18 Watt Marshall in the chassis. And what I am really wondering is, can I just go ahead and re-use the Switch Mode power supply (I believe that is the name).? I am kind of doing this on the cheap, so would like to use the existing PT and Rectifier.
So........OK to make do with the Switch Mode supply.?
Thank You

Sure, as long as it's isolated to its own PCB, you can reuse the switch-mode supply. Rip out the main board and put in something new! Recycling at its best!

Thank You......Yes. The SM Power Supply is on its own PCB with rectifier.
I will be using the stock OT as well. Looking forward to making a better amp out of this. In retrospect, I wish I would have bought 10 of these amps at that price. What a wonderful opportunity......
Thanks Again
