Post by: ncusack on June 10, 2011, 06:20:48 am

Here you can see the phisical measures of a 5879 tube

http://www.nj7p.org/Tube4.php?tube=5879 (http://www.nj7p.org/Tube4.php?tube=5879)

and here those of a common ecc83

http://www.nj7p.org/Tube4.php?tube=ECC83 (http://www.nj7p.org/Tube4.php?tube=ECC83)

so is easy to compare and to say that a shielded socket for ecc83 can be used for 5879

I think I own maybe 8 different 5879 tubes and they all fit within socket shield that Hoffman sells.

Here is how I mount mine.  It looks kind of goofy, but it works well.  I use some silicone from a hot pad (like in cooking)  &  make a socket mount and also wrap it around the shield. I trace a penny on to the silicone and then cut it out. The tube socket base fits inside that.

With respect, Tubenit
