I cant believe my eyes. 20uf/600VDC capacitors for the fender Vibrosonic are $21.00 each. I need 7 of them. I see 448VDC on the plates of the power tubes. I dont think i can get away with 20uf/500VDC caps. Im sure there is a B+ surge after flipping the standby before the tubes draw the current down. :cussing:

That is a really interesting read about standby switches, and what I found most interesting was the resistor in parallel with the standby switch "if you really think you need one". (his words, not mine)
Not saying you shouldn't go with the 600V'ers, but I just read that article today and this seemed an appropriate thread for it. :)

Excellent reading. I have seen this before but never thought of applying it to the standby switch. Merlin is a Wizard for sure :worthy1:

You could put lesser voltage caps in series: use Doug's; or Antique: Capacitor - Axial Lead Electrolytic, 47 µF @ 350 VDC $2.80 ea x 12 + bleeder resistors for ea -- less than $40.00.
-
Looks like i can do that. Just want it to be a clean job. I still cant get over that 20uf/600VDC axial caps are $21.00 a piece? Wonder what cap cans would cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Weber has 20uf/600v caps for just a couple bucks. They have short leads though.

The guy at justradios.com has them priced at 3 ea for $20. A great seller too. Caps are fresh. Cornell-Dublier I believe.
