So I was at a friends gig the other night at break we sat around talking he was playing through his 50 watt Marshall plexi, they had them turned way down low he was complaining about the usual sound you get out of them, no master volume on his so he might as well of had his silverface fender at that low of a volume.
He said he wished he could get a low power amp that wasnt like his 18watt marshall just doesnt sound the same .
He also wished it was a four tube power amp like his his 100watt marshall that got much differant bass frequencies and feel than his 50 watt, but only had around 20watts.
Got me to thinking so after I get done with this TW express build Im going to build one with 4 6005w or 6aq5,s Ive figured out with the vox transformer they use in TW clones 280-0-280 I can use a 5y3 or 5r4gb then use Geezers Zeener drop for 30volts on the HT center tap and Im right at 270v were I need to be with 250MA.
Slucky has a great amp he put out that has the best of both worlds plexi and 2203 with 4 preamp tubes I will add 3 more 1 for effects loop 1 for extra EQ section and one for high gain boost, sorry I couldnt resist the high gain channel I love playing lead through them,(LOL) . I will get the faceplates made and then go from there. It will be cathode bias of course to try and keep it around the 20watt range.
Sorry for thinking out loud here but you guys always have good idea,s to add.
Thanks Bill
Besides it was getting a little slow around here, :l2:

The amp I built for my son is a Marshall Plexi clone with a hot switch. My own amp was the same except for a 5Y3 rectifier and cathode biased 6V6's (+ or - 18 watts). A few weeks ago, I retubed his amp. He used mine... while I had his, supposedly! Now, I can't get it back! He told me, "I'll pay anything but I'll die if I don't get this amp." Well, he's paid me to build another for myself. The amp sounds an awful lot like the EL34 Plexi... only at about 18 watts. Here's a video from last week of them doing some Pink Floyd. The lead is that amp. Search for The Jabs. Scroll down a few inches and hit the video labelled "a little piece of the Jabs".

Let him listen. It might be exactly what he wants.

Hey bluesbear, your amp sounds really great, what transformers did you use?

Thanks! I got the PT from Allen Amplification, a few years ago. He didn't say who made it but, as it was from Chicago, I suspect it was from Magnetic Components. The OT was from Mercury Magnetics. Both were for a BF Deluxe.
