hi
i just using common 1n4007 in marshall and fender amp. but my friend told me motorola diode is the best of diode company. can anyone suggest me which model of motorola diode is good, because they have hundred of product
thank

I don't know Motorola diodes
but if you want to improve your SS rectifier use UF4007 instead of 1N4007
in an existing circuit, going on the cheap, you can add only one UF4007 in series with B+ rail after the bridge
UF4007 is € 0.069 each (pack of 50 pieces)
if you want more (3A - 1000v)
FR307G that is € 0.152 each (pack of 20 pieces)

hi
i try motorola MR856. it is 1A, 600v. sound really better than 1n4007. and my friend say UF4007 is not good for tube amp, too fast.
he said that motorola product a lot of good diode, also, Schottky diode is more better. it is the best on the world. i use it in TS-808 pedal, sound smooth immediately.
so i hope to know more information here. have anyone try these diode?
thank

I really can't believe one SS diode sounds better than another in a high voltage power rail.

For best results combine with western electric cloth wire.

I can't really either but I use the UF's anyways. BTW, when I first saw this post I thought I read Motorola DROID right when a call came in on the one I have

I can understand different diodes giving you different tone in a distortion pedal. They're being used to clip the signal.
But in a power supply? As others have said, that probably makes no difference to the tone at all.

I don't think Motorola even makes diodes any more?
Everybody now buys diodes from a few asian factories, maybe with their own trademark added.
Yes, back in 1968 there were "good" and "better" diode makers. Motorola used to be excellent. But that was a long time ago. Today's generic diodes are often better than the best we could get 40 years ago.

hi
can suggest the model no of motorola old diode?

Is there a particular color that works better?

Motorola 1N4007. Here's the datasheet...

they don't. motorola spun off the semiconductor biz to freesacle. freescale stopped manufacturing discrete components soon after it was formed.
freescale is hitting hard times - they heavily downsized an engineering office here, moved. now it's a pay-pal complex.

this is my exoerience, i replace my friend fender vibroking 1n4007 to motorola MR852. sound get improve. it like sound more fast response and more layer. so i believe diode will affact the sound in tube amp and pedal also
