Title: This is an Audio PA related Question?
Post by: Platefire on August 07, 2011, 10:09:34 pm
At our church we have wall mounted jacks on the back wall of the stage for xlr mic plug in and 1/4 phone plug going to the same channel on the main board. So for channel #6 that I use, I use the 1/4 high impedance jack for my acoutic guitar. So when I do this nothing is plugged in the xlr jack for the same channel. Well when I plug it in I would get this loud pop over the PA. I decided I would install a swich jack like we do on our guitar amps to ground the hot out when unplugged or un-ground it when I plug in. I added the switch jack but I'm still getting a pop in the PA when I plug in.
Why is this not working? is there something else I need to do? Platefire

My guess is the jack in the wall has a switch that's popping when you plug in. If it's a real worry, turn the levels down on the mixer first.

Can't really do that. The mixer is 50 Ft away and nobody manning it to turn it down. I need for the switch when you plug it in and the hot is ungrounded to not pop. Should be some electronic fix for that! Platefire

Why not just leave it plugged in all the time?

On my acoustic, the preamp switches on when you plug it in(no switch knob). That means my battery would be running during the whole church service (2.5 hours) even when I wasn't using it. You have to access the battery through the sound hole--making it a hassle to change--so I plug in my cord just before I do my songs and unplug as soon as I get through to save batteries.

The idea is save people from enduring a loud pop through the PA mains when I plug in and un-plug--by leaving it plugged in I would have to plug it in before sunday school and unplug it at end of preaching service, a period of about 2.5 hours. Platefire

Try an A/B switch between your guitar and the wall jack. Switch the A/B off before inserting/removing the plug from your guitar.
