Title: Eric Johnson jazz
Post by: tubenit on August 19, 2011, 09:10:45 pm
I really liked this! Thought his tone was fabulous.

I am as amazed by his right hand picking as his left hand fretting.

I'm not a very big EJ fan, but this was really nice!  This is what I call smokey jazz, not that crazy dissonant stuff.  This is what you would find in some no-name smokey club.  Cool stuff!

I REALLY liked the tone of that Tele.....oh wait...

If you like that, you may like my pal Scott Henderson. Apologies for low audio level on the live version of "Rituals".  Listening to the recorded version prolly gives a better idea of the tune if you're unfamiliar. If the links don't embed

If neither of the above embed search Youtube "Scott Henderson Rituals"

I am as amazed by his right hand picking   Yes, some doesn't seem possible.  E.g. he makes a broad sweep with his right thumb across 5 strings, but only 2 widely separate notes (octaves?) ring out.  Amazing, but invisible, muting technique in that alone!

For years I was a big ej fan. I love the way he attacks a note or chords. I met him a few years ago and he is a little guy but looks bigger on stage. I don't really care for the direction he has gone in the last few years. His old stuff was killer.
