Title: 3 lever palm bender for lap steel/fits Strat too
Post by: Willabe on September 18, 2011, 11:36:31 pm
Has anyone seen this yet?

I have always wanted something like this, looks like it works pretty good.

To install it on a strat, they say it drops in the vibrato cut out with no drilling, uses the same screw holes.

And listen to this guy

There's lots more on you tube.

Yes I've seen them!

They are loosely inspired from Bigsby trems.

I've been wanting to machine something like that for a long time now for Tele's.

I think one lever on the B string would beat the heck out of all the routing one has to do for a traditional B Bender.

Those Duessy's pegs the Way-Cool-O-Meter.

Hey Ray,

I saw a guy years ago in a club playing a Tele with a Bigsby on it and he had a palm lever hooked up to it. I don't remember where he said he got it, I think he said you can buy in Nashville. I've never seen one like it since. All it did was bolt on to the pivot bar somehow
to bend 1 string of choice. I think he said you could use/have up to 3 levers, 1 per string on the Bigsby.

I have 2 lap steels and always wanted to be able to get a minor cord without having to slant the bar, when in a major tuning. Plus that thing opens the door to alot of things/sounds/double stops with bends, like they were showing/playing.   :think1:

That is pretty cool, but you have to shitcan everything you know and start all over and learn a totally new type of playing style.  :l2:

My Fav type of slide sound is Jerry Douglas Dobro and really good pedal steel players.

That last guys has some scary hands
Reminds of some sort of scary witch hands in a Harry Potter movie

Maybe not everything, if your already playing in tunings and finger picking, for lap steel? I do wonder how long it would take to get used to shifting your picking hands wrist around though?

Jerry Douglas is in a league by himself, love'm since the early 70's. He was the go to guy for dobro for a long time. You name it, any old record with a dobro/slide part , it's more than likely him.

They are called a Bigsby Palm Pedal, and like the Deussy you can bend up to 6

I think The Deusey design is a little more refined.

It's certainly more accessible, I dont think those Bigsby's have been made since the 70's.

So when a Bigsby does come available, The often command a price near the Duessy

Hipshot, of course, has a great number of different String Benders available, including the current evolution of the Parsons-White.  But you if you go into the accessories part of their page you can get all kinds of things for their system.  I'm not sure, but I would think you could use them on a hardtail Strat.
