Title: Finishing my pickup coil winder. Where to mount the wire guide?
Post by: stingray_65 on October 16, 2011, 10:56:14 am
I finished up the pickup coil winder last night,

I was going to mount the wire guide, but I have no idea how far away to mount it.

The guide is adjustable vertically, and I know it has to run lower than my center-line of the shaft.

I just don't want to drill a line of tapped holes and guess. Broken wire and experience can get expensive.

Any suggestions or preferences any of you might have would be great.

Thanks

Ray

Wish I could help you Ray but have no idea these are uncharted waters for me, but it sure looks fantastic.  Is that a winding counter to the side of it or a digital rpm gauge.

It's an old Omron counter I salvaged from a press at work when we sent it to scrap.

It only will count  up to 20Hz so I can only count up to 1200 RPMs.

Thing is the motor is capable of 3200 RPMs and a 2:1 cog ratio puts me at 1600 RPMs.

So I choked the speed down a bit with a fixed resistor on the  speed control signal.

In retrospect I should have mechanicaly limited its speed with the right cog ratio of 2.5:1
