Title: super champ input jack wiring
Post by: phsyconoodler on October 20, 2011, 05:53:15 pm
If anyone has a picture of the input jack wiring of a super champ I would love you forever.
I have one that is almost done but the input jack wiring is totally confusing and I have tried a few different ways but I can't get it right.

 :dontknow:

This probably doesn't help much, but other Rivera era fenders might have similar input jack. (Champ II, Princeton Reverb II or Concert II)

The princeton reverb II is the same but there are still not good pictures to see of the input. The schematic is good, but the jack is funky and so is the wiring. This amp is a rats nest of crap wiring and bad design!

I can't find pictures either, but have you tried wiring it the way it is in this champ II layout:

No but if you look at the schematic, the reverb coupling connection is wrong on the layout.Other than that it's ok.
I would NEVER,EVER be tempted to build one. They suck so bad in design that it would be so easy to make a little amp like that with relays and two channels that would kick it's sorry little ass all over town.

A guy could do a layout for a Hot Rod Deluxe or Blues Deluxe, ditch the op-amp reverb and have a killer little amp.Do the Fromel mods as you build it and they rock!Relays are easier than those stupid vactrols for switching channels any day of the week.A triple triode? Give me a break! It would have been child's play to do a one tube reverb that would have sounded so much better than the Super Champ's that it would have taken up less space and then you would have been able to make the PI a long tailed pair and get 20 watts out of the little sucker.
I absolutely HATE Rivera Fender's.They were stupid beyond words. The only amp stupid-er is the Fender 75,which actually some idiot named Jahns designed.Dumb-ass is the key word here!
All those carbon comp resistors in the power supply and a 30 watt resistor in the switching matrix! Come on!The Super Champ was a cool little amp that could have been world-changing if he sat down and thought a smidgen more. For what it's worth,I can't stand new Rivera amps either.I have yet to play one that sounded great.Goodd maybe, great,no. And compilcated beyond necessity.Like Booger amps.
I used to be an auto mechanic and was flabergasted at designs of automotive systems.Amps are no different.Dumb is dumb in any industry.
There! Rant over! Back to building simple amps with real tone.
