Title: 65 Amps...The Producer
Post by: Mars-Hall on October 24, 2011, 02:41:38 pm
Wondered if anyone here has heard about this amp. It suppose to be designed around the use of "new production" tubes. Listening to the clips it sounds quite good. They don't talk much about the circuit design, other than it uses EL34's with a low voltage/high current vs high voltage/low current design. Specially designed transformer set by Mercury. Their saying it's the all inclusive amp great cleans, great overdrive. Boasting 25 year life expectancy of current production tubes in this amp.

Let me know what you builders, tweakers and tone junkies think about their claims, especially about this "low voltage/high current design. If this is the "end all be all" in amp design, why hasn't it already been done or has it?   Here's a link to a video from the LA Amp show.

Sounds good.
Sounds just like lots of other hand made amps out there.

The Les Paul stuff sounded mushy to me.

A friend of mine just picked up one called an Empire and I just saw it last night.  It sounded very good to me.  Says 3 channels but it is more like 3 boost controls or volume settings.  I only messed with it for about 10 minutes but thought it sounded very good.  His is a hardwired version or maybe they all are handwired.  The cab he had was a matching 65 Amps 212 with a G12H Anniversary 30 paired with an alnico Blue.

Shortfuse... Can you borrow it for an hour, take some pictures and get some voltage readings? Thanks!
