Title: My Jerry Jones Supreme Sitar
Post by: Willabe on November 03, 2011, 06:34:08 pm
Well since I finaly got a dig. camera, I thought I'd share some pics of some of my babys.

I bought this in 9/06 at a vintage guitar show in the Chgo. area from Willies American Guitars. He didn't want to haul it back to St. Paul, Mn. so he let me have it for $700. Tag "say's" $1299 list.  Plays/sounds real good. It's a lot of fun. I remember a lot of songs on AM back when I was a kid in the 60's that had this sound. Steely Dan had it on some recordings too.

Gator Burst finish with a black gator skin/brown trim case.

Recommended gauges for sympathetic drone strings are;   .030, .024, .018, .016, .015, .013.

Tuned from the factory, D A D D D A, low to high, but you can use many different tunings.

I saw at his site he's retiring.

Hope you like the pic's,     Brad       :icon_biggrin:

Here's a few more, check out the black bridge/saddle, it's on a slight angle and the part towards the neck goes up towards the strings, very, very close.

So when you hit the string the string buzzes on/against it and that's how it gets it's "sitar" sound.

That's cool.

I once saw where George Harrison's (original Danolectro/Coral) Sitar was stolen, by Spencer Davis.....  Evidently he couldn't get his own?

I'm a regular visitor to Willie's, my sister lives just a few blocks away from there. They have nice stuff, but just enough old junk to keep me happy too.

Yeh, thanks, I like it a lot. I always wanted one. I seem to remember that story now that you mention it. A lot of guys had them.

Must be nice, the guy I delt with seemed nice enough.

Now every time I hear one on a song when I'm with my wife, I point it out to her and we both laugh. Her ear has gotten very good, I have a hard time trying to stump her with "who's this singing"?

Hey your up in MN.? I have a friend up there named Curt Obeda. (Don't know if I spelled that right.) He's guitar player, sings too, who came to play in the blues clubs here in Chgo. He lived here for 4/5 years, in the mid 80's? He plays left handed but right side up. He's very good. Plays a strat with a Super Reverb, last I saw him he had a SF SR. Dark hair, 50 something? He played with Hubert Sumlin quit a bit back then.

Do you know him maybe? I know the twin cites are pretty big but it's a small world sometimes when it comes to musicians.

                Thanks,      Brad     :icon_biggrin:

I see Curt all the time in my shop.  He has been a regular customer of ours since before I can remember.  I like the fact he married Lolly because she had more Ray Charles records than he does!

No way, are you kiddin me? Curts a good guy and like I said he's a very good guitar man, IMO. I haven't seen him in a long time.

Has he ever told you any stories about when he lived here? He's got some good ones.

Gaberiel would you do me a favor please and tell him I say hi. And tell him I comin up there and I'm bringin Lefty Dizz, Johnny Dollar, Sammy Fender, Chico Chissim, Detroit Jr. and Big Time Sarah with me and were all stayin at his house!      :l2:     (That should get a laugh out of him)

I wonder if he still has that red Fez hat with the golden tassel?       :think1:

Yep that sounds like a Curt thing to say. I only met his wife once when I was up there and she was a great gal as I remember, he's a lucky man.

I'll tell him if I remember, but he's not in all that often, so I may forget.

Lolly is the host of a R&B, Blues, and Soul radio show every week on one of out community radio stations, and she is one of their biggest rated shows, so she really does know her stuff.
