Title: Circlotron circuit (PPP) - 1/4 of the standard PP impedance
Post by: kagliostro on November 17, 2011, 02:21:11 pm
Some days ago I've find this link and I liked to use the attached image as avatar

http://circlotron.tripod.com/ (http://circlotron.tripod.com/)

(there, there are some example of amps using that architecture)

today I was reading for one other time the text and I had this consideration

as circlotron (or PPP) is claimed to use 1/4 primary impedance with respect to the standard PP circuit

will this be a choiche for some unusual realizations in guitar amp ?

there is a project with 2 x el84 tubes that uses a 2000Kohm 2Kohm OT

or this circuit is not suitable for this use ?

Circlotron needs two power supplies.

It is not really different from McIntosh. Instead of Mac's two OT windings you use two PT windings/rectifiers/filters.

The Mac has never been popular for guitar: too dry.

Thanks PRR

so no interest for guitar amps only HiFi stuff

so no interest for guitar amps . . .

Everything is of interest for guitar amps.  :icon_biggrin:

Sometimes you have to build a bicycle with square wheels, just to prove to your own satisfaction that it isn't very practical.  :think1:

Back on topic: As PRR noted, you do need two equal and floating power supplies. This also makes the design of preamp stages challenging.
