40 years ago today some stupid with a flare gun burned the place to the ground...  Thank you to my Purple buddy GroundhogKen!

I always wonder where Deep Purple would be in rock and roll history, had it not been for this incident and the corresponding song, "Smoke on the Water".  There were other songs on Machine Head that had to do with the hardships they encountered because they could not use the Casino for recording.  Fate at work!
