Title: TOS REBUILD ALMOST DONE
Post by: TIMBO on December 08, 2011, 01:16:50 am
Hi guys, I'm nearing the completion my TOS and it is with out doubt a fantastic amp ( the buzz has not gone completely but i think the volume level i'll will be playing the amp at, i can live with it ). Tubenit removed the original master vol and replaced it with the "chime control" ( i've called it "CRUNCH")and i was thinking of putting in another pot for a "volume" pot as the volume pot off pin7 V1 acts more like a GAIN control ( i was unaware that this amp when cranked had some pretty big NUTS and really SMOOTH/WICKED distortion ).I did notice that when in CLEAN mode the buzz is a lot louder than when in overdrive, why this is i don't know as one would think if the buzz is loud in clean then it would be worse when in overdrive  :dontknow:, The overdrive is great as it is and when the PPIMV is set there is plenty of adjustment with the OD controls  :blob10: so i was wanting to be able to set the PPIMV and have more control of the VOL in the clean section. The original had a LEVEL pot that was switched out when switched to OD but now that the CHIME has been added where would the best place be for the NEW VOL pot  :think1:

Tubenit, I tried the "enhance cap" (250p silver mica)across the 82k plate resistor on the PI but it sounded terrible and distorted the sound but not in a good way, i also tried some other values, no good. Thanks

Just put it like this which is similar to the original.

Thanks for the review of the "enhance" cap. I am very surprised to hear that it "distorted" the sound & I am wondering if that is because of the buzz problem?

With respect, Tubenit
