I bought a 1993 Classic 50 head this morning. I stole it. (not literally) Virgin circuit board. Nice transformers. I did the Steve Ahola EQ mods and preamp board mods. It was a bit harsh before on the OD channel
This amp sounds much better all around. Im glad i bought it. It's my birthday today so it seemed like a good excuse too get it

I really like those little amps. I have bought probably five of them and then wound up selling them just to buy another one later on.

Yeah thats what i read online about everyone that sell's them wishing they hadnt. I tell ya the mods for this amp really make a huge difference in the Dirty channel. Before it was to bright and harsh on that channel. Now it's smoother and full rounded. Im glad i didnt buy the Classic 30 i was eyeing. It was one of the newer ones. Im always scheptical of stuff made these days. Better with a early 90's model
It seems that there are a lot of decent amps that were made in the early 90's. After that it became a crap shoot of trial and error

Oh Boy! Happy Birthday. Can't think of a better birthday to get a great deal on a tube amp, spend the day modifying it and then jam on it all night enjoying the fruits of your labor. Loving a great deal on an amp, and being a tube amp picker for sure ---would like to know what you picked it up for $$$$. Platefire

Hi Plexi, Got a mates peavey 30 and was looking to do Steves mods and by the sound of it, the mods are worth doing. Thanks

$200.00 Platefire. Im pretty tight with money these days. I like having some backup for an emergency. But i couldnt pass it up.
TIMBO the mods do make a nice difference and smooth out the harshness of the dirty channel. I hear more of a Bluesy and smoother quality for both channels. Some of those EQ caps that look like resistors are very small. Working on the Classic 50 boards were a breeze. Working on a Classic 30 though would be a little more difficult but not all that bad. It would be well worth the time and effort
