Title: champ ot for reverb?
Post by: phsyconoodler on December 19, 2011, 12:27:13 pm
Can you use a champ OT for reverb on a Vibrolux Reverb? The reason i ask is I have one laying around and was wondering if it would work in this application or will the impedance difference be too much?

No, it doesn't make sense.

The primary impedance is very different. What you may be recalling is Gerald Weber's suggestion to use a Champ OT for the reverb driver in a Fender standalone reverb unit. The primary impedance to make 6V6/6K6/EL84 work in that situation is very similar across all those tubes. Not really so for paralleled 12AT7.

Retail prices on a replacement reverb driver OT are almost half the price of a Champ OT.

+1 HotBluesPlate,

At tubesandmore reverb driver transformer are $13 and $16 , primary impedance are 25 k . Champ output transformer have 7 k , Not the same.
