Title: SO-LOW WATT ECL84
Post by: TIMBO on December 20, 2011, 01:07:31 am
Hi guy's, When these and other similar tubes are used as power tubes how well matched do they need to be, as i'm sure if you were to ask when buying then you want a matched pair i'm not sure of the response i'll get. Thanks

I Think that if they are within 5ma of difference in consumption, each other, you can call it matched

Almost all of the tube sellers, including Guitar Center and Sam Ash, sell matched pairs and quads.  Antique Electronics (www.tubesandmore.com (http://www.tubesandmore.com)) sell matched sets or if you want NOS, they charge an additional $5 per pair.

I bought 5 ECL84's for the SoLow Watt.  None were adverstised as matched.

I've only had mismatched power tubes be a concern one time ever & it was with a current production 6V6.  And there was a HUGE difference in current pull between them.
