Title: Champ Amp build! Need oddball cap
Post by: blueznet on January 10, 2012, 02:11:43 pm
Fixing to build a Champ amp, mid 60's. The schematic calls for a 2uf/25vdc electrolytic cap.
I been looking for this value and come up with nothing.

Any of you guys know anyone that may sell this value?

Mouser has many 2uF@50VDC caps. Everybody has 2.2uF caps.

Mouser seems to have them.  "http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Vishay-Sprague/TVA1301-E3/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtZ1n0r9vR22beeiJoI0EpCw%2ftqZOItGaw%3d".  It's a higher voltage rating but that is okay.

I seen those with 50vdc rating, but did not know if 50vdc is okay to use.

There's only about 2 volts on it.

50 volts is fine.

I've been using 20uf in there... Use what ever you got, you won't hear the difference through an 8" speaker.

believe it or not

Your local radio shack has a 4.7uf 50v axial lead for about $1.50

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103572&filterName=Brand&filterValue=RadioShack (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103572&filterName=Brand&filterValue=RadioShack)

and a 2.2uf 50v axial non-polarized for about the same

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102479&filterName=Brand&filterValue=RadioShack (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102479&filterName=Brand&filterValue=RadioShack)

I use the 4.7 now and then, they have always been Nichicon brand, have one in my hands now (so I could spell Nichison)

Dave has 2.2uf 50v elytics on ebay, granted he sells in a unit of 50 pieces but he might sell a smaller quantity just ask.

2.2uf caps (http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-2uF-50V-Axial-Electrolytic-Capacitors-QTY-50-/300549234128?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item45fa215dd0)
