Title: Trem-O-Drive Transformer Question
Post by: blown240 on January 16, 2012, 04:06:16 pm
I am getting ready to build a RickTone Trem-O-Drive pedal and I have a question about the transformers.

Here is a schematic:

http://www.ricktone.com/tremodrive.shtml (http://www.ricktone.com/tremodrive.shtml)

The schematic uses 2 transformers;  1 to go from 120v to 12.6v and then another to go back to 120v.  Wouldnt it be better to just use 1 transformer that has a 6.3 secondary?  Like a preamp transformer...  Or is there a reason that he did it the way he did?

Cheap transformers from Radio Shed... that's why he did it.

wow, they are still $10 each at radio shack.  Seems you could get a small PT for around $20-25

And heres info on a tube boost/distrotion pedal project, look at the power supply, pages 1-4. As far as the power supply, same type of thing?

6 _and_ 120V. A less-common part. I can think of a few but 10 day $10 delivery.

Or one for 6 and one for 120. Two parts to source, and small 120V secondaries are less common.

Two 120-to-6 irons can be sourced everywhere. Aside from radio shed, you might scavenge them from old electronics.

The 120:6:120 conversion is lossy but we don't need much B+ power.

I see he opted for 12V heater connection, same difference, just hit the right pins.
