Title: Help dating a Gibson Lap Steel BR-6 from late 40's early 50's

500K vol/tone pot's, both have same code on pot, 2150566    835, it also has a I or 1 then R which is in the center of the ohm sign then C, these 3 are right next to each other, I think this is the companys logo/name?

I've searched different sites about pot date codes, but the codes on these pots don't add up. I must be missing something. 

The lap steel is a Gibson BR-6. I have a book on all the Gibson steel's that says that they made them from 1946 to 1959. 

There is no serial # stamped into the wood. I just read on another site that after the war till about 53 Gibson did not stamp serial #'s on their lap steels.   :dontknow:

Gibson's from that era are extremely hard to date accurately.  You need to find a person who knows the details of instruments from that period, and even then it's hit or miss.  It may be that 1946-1953 is the best you can do.

Hey did you ever find anything out about this thing? I ask because Ted Woodford just put up a vid of a '46 BR-3? and according to him that 835 on yours would date it to the 35th week of 1948.

I found it because of Ted's video so I thought I'd share a little of what I found in case you still hadn't found anything solid. Yes I realize 12 years ago is a while lol. You probably don't even have it anymore, do you?

Edit: heres that vid from Ted Woodford. You may want to have a watch if you still own this lap steel. Ted's usually pretty accurate on his info, AFAIK.

I still have the lap steel, would prefer not to let it go until I can't play anymore. Still not sure how old it is. Doesn't really matter, it's older than me, I'm 65.  :laugh:
If you tune it up to an open E cord, strum it hard, even unpluged it will start to dance across the table.  :laugh:   Old wood, Mahogany.

I had Lindy Fralin fix/rewind the PUP. The bobbin was off gassing and had ate up the copper winds. Lindy said it was very common with old Gibson PUP's. He cut the winds out, cleaned the bobbin up, then coated the bobbin, where the winds will be touching it, with I think it was super glue? He said that would help protect the wire from any future off gassing.
