Opinions?

"The Kemper Profiling Amplifier is an entirely new and groundbreaking concept for guitar amplification using digital technology. We believe that every guitar player should be able to transfer his personal signature sound into a single lunchbox-format amplifier."

It probably works as advertised. Too rich for my blood.
I tried a Line 6 SS combo last week just to see what the "Tweed", "Bassman" and "BF" modeling settings sounded like. It actually sounded pretty good! At low settings. No balls when turned up though.
So by logical extension, a professional grade modeling amp would definitely be worth trying if you had the dough.

I've got a Line6 too, for solid state it sounds "okay". Or did when last played about 3 years ago. But what I notice about a good tube amp is the touch sensitivity, which perhaps they've managed to duplicate there, who knows. It's cool getting a different bite out of it just by picking harder or softer.

Shred video on the website sounded pretty good to me. I liked it.
with respect, Tubenit

Dont know about the Kemper, but my experience with Line 6 is that they may sound ok in a bedroom if you like their sound , but they dont seem to project in a band situation. A friend of mine got rid of his Line 6 as it just didnt cut it live.
Try comparing a real 5E3 Deluxe to the tweed combo setting on the rack-mounted pro version and the Line 6 just doesnt come close to the real thing. Its one of those too-good-to-be-true products IMHO.

my brother used a Line 6 POD when he was playing in his band . I personally have and still use a digitech GNX2 to record with , you can get real close to the tube tone , but the key word here is close. The only thing that truely sounds like a tube is a tube.

Definitely want to play with one. Probably don't want to own one.

WOW!
How much?

I think it's selling for ~$1700.
This technology seems to be quite different than Line 6 stuff. I don't know the fine details but this seems to be some sort of sampling algorithm instead of digital emulation.
I'd love to try one out.
If it's as neat as it looks I could see one of these units in recording studios around the world. Want Eric Clapton's tone?...here plug in, he was here last week and we captured his amp!

I think the real potential of this technology is people trading the profiles. Hey, look, Eric Clapton uploaded his amp to freekemperprofiles.org!

Man, I must say I pretty much like everything so this would be no exception. Just like I am trying to get a Keeley Time Machine right now. Here is the deal with me and amps. Modeling does not work because no 2 tube amps are the same. Similar, but different. I have a real Jtm-45. I have a friend who has one as well. His is much tighter whereas if you hold an open G chord on mine the 6th string harmonics just roar and he cannot get his to do it. He likes that roaring type of thing. But I have modeling devices and think they are cool so there is no doubt this thing is cool. Hell, I even like the old Boss distortion pedal. There are just too many variables for modeling to work. Even moving my amps to different places make them sound different. Even doing an earlier sound check in a club, when the room fills everything seems to change.

Yeah it changes. People and clothing absorb sound. Summer to winter clothes make a big change in the sound of a room too.
I find that what I notice the most about these line 6 type things is not so much listening to someone else playing through them.
It's when I try to play through one, I can't deal with the lack of touch control with pick attack on/of the strings.

i had a Fractal Audio Axe FX for a while. i played it right beside my modded bassman on a few gigs and i got it to sound almost indentical. it behaved like a tube amp as well because they include so many different parameters that can be adjusted. real amp type tweaks, not just tonal tweaks. things like bias adjustment and filter cap stuff. i don't remember everything but it was like servicing a virtual amp but the changes really affected the sound and feel of the amp sims. their pedals sims are kickass as well. some great overdrives and modulation effects. i loved it but i had to sell it to pay off some stuff. for studio work i don't think you can beat it. for live it's easier to just take my deluxe and some pedals.
