Title: Bumble Bee Twist
Post by: EL34 on February 16, 2012, 02:41:28 pm
Another favorite Ventures tune of mine
My bee action has gotten a bit rusty over the years, but it still flies  :l2:

Doug,

You're playing is GREAT on that one!  Very nice job.  You seemed to have loosened up more in front of the camera, too.

Looks like you were having alot fun playing a really fun tune!

Thanks for sharing it. Really enjoyed it.

With respect, Jeff

Thanks Jeff
That one is a fast one
Gets me a bit tense, but I kept it on track enough to get by

Thanks guys

Yeah, the surfcaster guy has sort of changed his bumble bee lead to the flight of the bumble bee type lead
The ventures version was not like that
But I like the shred type thing he has going

The Surf Coasters are damn good but.....

IMHO Note for note, you nailed it and why shouldn't you?
It's in your culture and blood.
Good job Doug!

I'm not sure what it is about surf music.  It has a hook into me... I grew up in the Caribbean and FL on the coast.  My guess is that I heard it a lot on AM radio when I was really small and it got into the proto-brain.    It surely has a feel all its own in any case.

Yes, I surf on a surfboard, but that was a more recent development than getting back into surf music as an adult (first The Ventures, then Los Straitjackets when I was living in Boulder before moving back to FL).

My parents belonged to the RCA record club
There were lots of cool LP's to listen to when I was a kid

Ventures, Herb Alpert, Boot Randolf, the list goes on

I have a cover of Penetration coming up.  I thought it was finished...then I realized I recorded the bridge in the wrong key!

I used to do that one a long time ago

I forget how I used to play the bridge now.

LOL mine too,

I thought the gal on the cover of Herb Alpert's "Whipped Cream and Other Delights" album was the epitome of sexy.
