Title: I bought caps, now popping has disappeared before replacing
Post by: TerryD on February 18, 2012, 08:08:33 am
I had terrible popping and sputtering on my Fender 68 rebuilt bassman head.  Checked appropriate resisters and for loose connections and tubes, nothing....had to be caps,,,right?  Bought a set of replacement atoms for my 13 year old atoms.   They are in the mail.  Now the amp isn't real quiet but the sputtering is gone.

Any advice, psychological or otherwise?

Did  you try some different preamp tubes and clean tube sockets? If it's a preamp tube, it will be back. Go ahead and replace the filter caps for sure if they are old. Platefire

don't get mad, get on your knees, have your amplifier in front of you, be ''zen'' and you'll accept the problem as it is :worthy1:
