Don't know if they are "Real" or not but I use them all the time.

I don't know about that "real" thing either , however I have had bad experience's with JJ tubes myself. I have bought several quads that were not matched and a few that 1 or more of the tubes where bad.

Jack, Where do you buy your JJ's? The seller should be matching the tubes. I buy lot's of tubes and every brand has duds... Every brand. Again, the seller should cover you on the bad ones.
Sorry about the thread robbery.

I have had bad experiences with new JJ KT-88's failing. My suggestion: If you buy them, put them into service right away in case you need to use a return policy.

...And if it honestly wasn't the amp's fault, don't tell the seller it was a homebrew. Say it was an Orange or something :icon_biggrin:
FWIW, the new JJ 6550s look good.

I have used them before and the JJ KT88's and liked them both in different applications. I by my JJ's direct form JJ and had a problem with 1 miss matched set once they sent me another no questions asked didn't even ask for the odd one back.

I have been buying from CE for the most part these days , yes they have always replaced the bad ones and made good on the miss matched tubes as well . I know what you mean about buying every brand , it comes with the territory., and of course every brand of most everything really with have a few lemons.

I like the 6550A-STR TAD Premium Matched from Tubeamp Doctor. I have a pair in a JCM 800 Lead Series amp. They are made in China. I have run into too many bad JJ tubes in the past year right out of the box. No more for me

Like every maker, JJ builds tubes in batches...and sometimes there are bad batches. There are also duds sometimes. I had have great luck with JJ KT88's, but all the ones I have used are from late 90's or early 2000's. I've also used some of the Genelex "reissue" KT88's that a customer supplied....he had a mismatched quad and a bad tube in another quad, and the JJ's sounded better, but the Genelexes were alright. I've heard good stuff about the Tung-Sol "reissue" 6550's, but have not used them. I have had great luck with the Winged C 6550C's...had a lot of 6 in my SVT since the mid 90's with no problems whatsoever and nice sound, and the JJ KT88 are my go to tube for Sunn amps with very good sound in that application....YMMV.

Thanks guys!!
I have been using "C" 6550 for quite a lot time..never had any issues with them so far...I would like to try the JJ but feel unconfortable with quality control from factory.. had some JJ KT88 going south out of the box...
JJ 6550 price seems reasonable...
I will probably try them anyway and report back results..
