Title: Crate Vintage Club 60 Part ID
Post by: plexi50 on March 16, 2012, 08:22:04 am
I cant find the Crate Vintage Club 60 schematic
I am looking for the value of the AC suppresion cap seeing as the one i removed from the board is missing the top half of the cap
Im thinking .047 or .1 600V?

Thanks  kagliostro! I just emailed them. There are a few schematics that are just plain hard to find or not available at all for free. I did find a site a while back that sells just about every schematic using Paypal

By the way! What makes these supression caps smoke out? AC voltage surge or cap material? The paper and metal impregnated caps are suppose to be quieter but they have a higher failure rate.  Never really questioned what makes them blow

Unfortunately, pay for  schematics is a spreading plague

if may be of some help

Yeah i know. I think we have seen the better days of the internet. Who knows what is coming next

Ok i have to stop work and ask what is this part VR1 on the schematic? Cap,Resistor?
I cant find a symbol that matches the one on the crate schematic for VR1. Im thinking resistor anyway
I called crate and they have no data or manufacturer part data left for this amp

A thermistor?

I dont know. What i think is i screwed up by putting a .047 cap in that spot and im not getting AC to the PT
It's one of those days ya know/

I think your right Willabe

I dont have any. Is there any other substitute method i can use?

A varistor act in similar way, but not due to current across it, it acts when a larger voltage cross it, so isn't usable for this purpose

if you where in the B+ rail as the brimistor in Vox AC50 you can use this circuit

but you are still in the AC side of the PS

as a temporary solution you can use a large (in W) resistor

I'm not sure you have to use it? If it's a thermistor it's just to slow down the in-rush current, which is a good thing, but shouldn't be necessary.      :dontknow:

Could i use a 470 ohm 10 watt resistor just to test the circuit out or would i ues a higher value resistance

I think you can use that 10W resistor, I don't think you want to use the amp for a long time

maybe 470R is a bit high as value, you must consider that isn't an NTC and those 470R will be always at the same value, it will be something like using a light bulb

I think kagliostro is right, 470R is too much. 10R@10w should be plenty. It's just to slow down the in-rush current, once that's over it's like the thermositor isn't there.

I think you can test the amp with out either.

Well i think it's over at this point because the PT is dead so i dont think im going to find one for it
I called Crate and they done even have the data on who made there transformers for this amp anymore. They did say they were proprietary. That says it all

That could easily explain why the thermistor blew. Now as far as it being proprietary? Well, unless you can tell size/mounting is going to be an issue, a little circuit tracing, and some guess work on what the working voltages were should yield, if its possible, a workable drop-in, or if you'd need a custom model made.

The PT info i found is on the new topic i posted for the bad PT
