Title: Blues DeVille
Post by: plexi50 on March 19, 2012, 08:31:51 pm
This amp sounds terrible on the clean channel. The overdrive channel sounds better in this amp but not by much. I am recapping it but i didnt find any real bad caps. One is slightly saturated. Bias is good and stable at -50

All preamp and power tubes are good. I swapped them out anyway with the same results
The amps sounds distorted early on the volume pot. No real full headroon to speak of

Stressful day / Are there any other know issues with this amp?

Take voltages... Compare to the schematic and conquer. You've worked on 100's of amps.

Your right LC. Divide and Conquer. Im doing just that right now. R82-R83-R89 all are open. And the trail just goes on. Ive never had an amp with so many problems. This is one of those got to go over every dang part. (dang) in english is dam

Once a year i get one in that is a real time consuming nightmare. This isnt one of them just yet

I just replace all 4 of them. R88 as well. Seems like this amp could have got a voltage surge at one of those clubs with a poor voltage source

What do you mean by terrible?  My HRD sounded terrible, but apparently that's the way it's supposed to sound!   :icon_biggrin:  Modding that amp is what got me into this. . .  (BTW: the amp sounds great now, but I'm afraid to look at it for fear of busting those stock cold solder joints  :icon_biggrin:)

Terrible bubble trouble. The power supply 220K's are only bleeder resistors correct? These being bad wouldnt have any effect on the tone right?
