Title: Robbed......literally
Post by: Geezer on March 24, 2012, 08:24:41 pm
My family has been through an ordeal over the past few months & needed a rest, so we went to the beach for a week while the rates were still cheap.

Just got back (3pm edt) to find the back door kicked in, the house ransacked & lots of items stolen.

All the jewelry I've purchased for my wife over the last 35 years, along with heirloom items from her mother & grandmother(s).

A priceless (to me) Remington 742 Woodmaster 30.06 semi-automatic (150th anniversary model from 1966) that was my brothers & left to me when he died in 1966.

A custom guitar I had just finished building.

My favorite guitar cabinet with a very hard to replace original (10 year old) Weber Signature 12 that had that special tone.

Man, we've spent the last 6 hours cleaning the mess & assessing the damage.....I hate thieves  :cussing:

It will take a long time (if ever) to figure out everything that's missing.

This week I'll be cruizing all the pawn shops.

Anyway, thanks for listening....  :sad2:

Damn Geezer, that just sucks. I'm sure the heirloom jewelry hurts worse than what you've purchased, same with the inherited stuff. I sure hope you find at least some of your stuff.... icing on the cake would be catching the ones responsible. Very best wishes.

Oh man, that sucks BIG time....  You will not find a more sentimental guy than me.  Things handed down in a family, gifts to your wife - those can not be replaced and the memories that go with them.  I hope you find the low life sleezebags and ultimately put them away for a LONG time.  Best of luck finding your stuff.  Hopefully the cops can track them down before anything disappears.

Thanks guys.........just realized my wife's Dad's WWII medals are gone (Navy flyer) and a diary that her great grandad kept in WWI, with all the places he served & all the rehab hospitals he was in after being shot in the head (to give these asses the freedom to steal his grand-daughters stuff to buy drugs)  :BangHead:

The worst part is that they picked those things up by accident with other more valuable stuff, so they will all end up in the trashcan..... :cussing:

I'm sorry to hear of your losses Geezer. I hope that the perps are caught quickly and your things are recovered for you....I can't even imagine how I would feel in your circumstance....

Wow, Geezer, I'm sorry!

I've been hit by thieves a few times, but nothing nearly so complete or devastating. I know your family had to feel almost gutted by that experience.

I hope you're fortunate enough to recover at least some of your things.

That is not happy news.

Did you wait for the cops to do their look-around before cleaning up? (Maybe they can catch some if it during their normal pawn shop sweeps.) Hopefully you had the serial for them on the rifle too. Don't want some jerk to use it in a crime and have it come back to explain HOW it wasn't you that willingly provided it (IF it doesn't wind up in a pawn shop.)

Doesn't matter the reason really why the thieves raided your place though (drugs, thrills, hard-up), it still doesn't justify it. I hope they get caught and can't worm their way out of the consequences. One thing I am glad about though is the cowards didn't have any chance to hurt you or your family physically. The emotional rape of the act is bad enough.

Twisted, broken people, wrecking good peoples lives.      :cussing:         :BangHead:

I can't imagine what you and your family are feeling.

Truly truly sorry to hear about this!!!!   That is AWFUL !!!

I've had priceless irreplaceable things stolen before also.  It is a terrible, thoughtless  and cowardly crime.

I have no use for thieves like that.    :violent1: :violent1: :violent1:

with respect,  Jeff

Do that. And other music-gear buyers.

When scum took my best speakers, I found them a week later at the local audio exchange. I said nothing, called the cops, they picked me up, went to the exchange, I formally identified the speakers. Cops did some paperwork with the shop and took the speakers away. A month later they returned the speakers. A year later I got a form-letter advising me of a trial. I called the cops and they said they found enough stuff at the scum's house to lock him up for several months.

In addition to the speakers he took a specialized microphone which was useless without the analyzer. That never turned up.

This was at work. I had little skin in the game. It must be MUCH more personal when they come in your house and paw through your own stuff.

Don't wait to cruz the pawn shops, get on the phone right now and give them a detailed list of what was stolen.
Email them the list or drive it to them

They can call the cops as soon as an item enters the shop.

I had an amp stolen from my shop in the 90's

I walked out for 5 minutes and came back and it was gone

I got on the phone and called all the pawn shops.

A shop called the cops when the guy entered the pawn shop with the amp
They grabbed the guy, he went to jail and I got the amp back

Give the shops a detailed list of the items before they take it in so they can call the cops.

Be proactive, not reactive, there is a huge difference

Watch Craigslist too!

I had my garage burglarized 3 years ago... Nothing was recovered. Fortunately they passed by a box with car keys in it.....

Wow, very sorry to hear--I feel for you. I don't think I have ever gotten more angry than when I was ripped off.

I truly hope that you can recover any or all of it. And I hope the cops find them thieving magpies before you do...  Regards

Hate here that.Hope they catch he bastards

A few years ago my work truck was stole about 2 blocks from the police station(in atown of about 8,000).The only thing more disapointing than my truck and all my tools being stolen was the way the police handled it.When they got there they asked me about 10 times if I made my truck payments.I responded each time. The truck has been paid for since 1988.They wouldn't even here about the thousands of dollars worth of tools in the truck.I ended up getting ripped off by the tow company. When they found my truck(ABout two hours away with no tools in it). They said they had to have it towed could'nt just leave it there till i came to get it.The tow company stuck me with a $250 bill.Charged me like another $75 to keep it unsecured(not behind a fence) in a parking lot in the worst part of town.

Sorry didn't mean to make it about me.Hope your ordeal turns out better.

Nothing to report.....been checking the pawn shops, craigslist, ebay.

Police don't have any interest, very frustrating, but understandable, I guess....lots of more serious crime out there.

Geezer - I missed this until now.  Losing things is bad enough, but when your home is burglarized you feel violated on a very personal level.  Especially when you lose things that mean so much to you and are worth so little to anyone else.

I'm really sorry to hear about this.  Hope the bastards get caught and sent to jail.

Take care,

Chip
