So I'm guessing the PCB is an active loop?
Crazy beautiful mojo. So how does it sound? Worth the extra $$$?
-
Nice work.

hi
the PCB is send return loop, i buy from metroamp, not mojo.
i think it sound very good. my friend also own real 1968 marshall superlead, compare with his plexi. i think his plexi little better than my amp. i think my amp haven't run in. i believe my amp will sound better than his amp later. Because Mercury say his transformer quality will be same with old transformer , but this is the worst case, should be better normally.
also, marshall use common wire only, i use kimber and new technique japanese 1% resistor. definitely, my amp is silence than his amp.
Moreover , i use good quality power cord recently. i don't know power cord will affact the sound quality before. after trying it, i make 4 cable already. but it is expensive. i use furutech power cord, it is $15 ft. but it improve the tone much too much

I've been saying that for years. Everybody says I'm crazy. Maybe now they'll listen!

Very nice build. It looks like Georges style over at metro. I built a JTM-45 using his layout. Everything looked so nice I hated to modify it, but I did. Loop, changed some values to plexi on channel 2. It was a little dark. Looks like a killer 100+ watter you have there. Nothing like 100 watter cranked with a Les Paul banging an e chord. The loop is $99, Mojo's is $79.
Nice work, but I am not sure about $15 a foot power cord. Mercury sells a red power cord to improve tone. I got a red one at Frys and I am not sure as I have not put a meter on it. I guess I need to check if I am getting the same voltage from the plug as I am getting from the wire, but then I would have to check the panel box but I am too lazy to do that. I do have a nice old variac I run my older amps with.

hi Ed Chambley
do you mind to share some photo of your JTM45 amp?
as the power cord, please believe me, good power cord compare to original power cord , sound hugh different. and i used monster power cord before, it is $2.5 ft, after trying furutech, i change all ppower cord to furutech already. Furutech is very famous japanese company. they do very great power section product.
and furutech have some Hifi fuse for sell. but it is $50 each. i buy it for my A7 monitor. i try it for marshall amp, it sound great and better. but i will not use it for marshall, because marshall always break the fuse.
i use follow furutech product.

Beware, AC Conditioners and wall socket also very important. i live in Hong Kong, so i use UK style. i use brand of MK. it is more cheaper. if using furutech, price is terrible.
in fact, guitar amp is same with Hifi amp sometimes. Good AC mean good power and mean good sound. i learn it from hifi guy

i upload the AC Conditioners i used. it is brand of MK. but i use Furutech Cable and Furutech Fuse inside.
honestly, i doesn't use the best parts i have. i own RMG whole plexi set resistor and Real Mustard Cap. but RMG and Mustard is discontine , so i hope to save it.

I don't take many photos, but the next time I have it removed from the head, I will get you some photos. I have 3 of them. One is an original and it is stock right down to the caps and tubes. It is in dire need of going through, but I don't use it. It is one of my collectables. The second one is built from the kits George used to sell at Metro. Slucky gave me a drawing of how to put in plexi values in one of the channels. It has a Larmar Master and is currently my main amp. The third one is really modified. I used a Mojo chassis, and their PT. It has a tube loop from weber. Each input is different and has an additional preamp tube. The marshall side has a JTM-45 and Plexi and it does also have a sort of Fender side running as well. This one uses a 12AY7. The output tubes are EL-34's and it has one of the worst reverbs you have ever heard. It too has the Larmar master volume as these work very well.
I agree that good AC is necessary, but it is only as good as the power at the wall plug. In the US we have the luxury of good power sources in modern areas, but usually when I am playing a gig we have extension cords feeding power strips and many plug into the same circuit. I do have a Furman power conditioner, but that is because it has lights in it.

Can anyone suggest an approximation length for the leads wires on a typical 100W Super Lead amp? I want to try this method of loading the board with the lead wires.
Ange
-
Depends how much wastage you're prepared to tolerate, because they'll all be different lengths. I usually lay the board in the chassis and roughly cut each wire to length. Or do a few at a time, take the board out, solder them to it, then pop the board back in and do some more.
-
It’s annoying to discover that I’ve cut a wire too short.
Just have to accept a certain degree of wastage is an inevitable part building such equipment.
Even if paying $/ft for it (as per kwm88 below)!
