Title: Hammond 270FX Primary wires ?
Post by: worth on May 22, 2012, 02:06:28 pm
I just received this PT.. it's got three primary wires , white , black , and grey. What IS the grey wire ? It's not really clear on the wiring diagram ?

Scroll to the bottom of this page (http://www.hammondmfg.com/263.htm).

Apparently, Hammond made a change to their PT's in 2009, but they still haven't updated the diagrams on their boxes. I got a Hammond PT a few months ago, with the same lack of indication on the diagram for the gray wire.

I suggest using the 125v wiring (white, black wires) to avoid the too-high voltage that used to be common with Hammond PT's.

Use white and grey if your line voltage is 115VAC. Use white and black if your line voltage is more like 125VAC.
