Title: 5Y3 rectifiers on a hombrew jcm 800 2204
Post by: garyboy on July 12, 2012, 12:32:20 pm
Hi I building a home brew JCM 800 and wanted to include a tube rectifier section using 2 JJ 5Y3S. I also want a solid state rectifier section with UF4007 diodes, 470k 1 watt resistors, and 10,000pf 1kv ceramic disk capacitors. i have 4 500mfd 500v filter caps with 470k 2 watt resistors for the solid state section. I was wondering what size filter caps to use for the rectifier tube section so i don't blow the tubes, so i didn't hafto change the b+ and ect capacitors. I heard you can add more capacitance by adding more rectifier tubes. I also be willing to add 3 5Y3s if i would need to. I am planning to use 2x EH KT-88 power tubes.

Why 2 5Y3's instead of a single, more-capable rectifier?

Yeah more filter capacitance for 50 watts.
