Title: Fender Super Twin Reverb Ugly distortion....
Post by: BigE on July 16, 2012, 09:37:15 pm
I have a Super Twin Reverb on the bench.   When you turn on the "distortion" knob it does distort, but it's an ugly flabby not natural distortion.  The voltages seem good.  I tried swapping the AX7 and the At7 in the PI stage and no luck.  And of course you can't find a 6C10 to swap.

I get the -30 OFF>-11 ON voltages as the schematic indicates.  It really sounds GREAT with the distortion off, but turn it on...  not so much.  Granted the distortion in these amps aren't good to start with but I know this isn't normal.

Any ideas/suggestions?

thanks in advance!

the distortion sound in these amps is really really bad. but that part of the circuit is a bit of a mystery to me

Don't waste your time. You got 180watts of clean power... Toss a Tubescreamer in front of the amp and shake the town.
