Can anyone suggest a good schematic that uses 6SL7s and/or 6SN7s? I have a bunch of them and a bunch of 8 pin sockets and I'd like to somehow use them instead of having to buy some more 12AX7s and 9 pin sockets. I just saw a show on PBS about James Jamerson's Ampeg B12N and checked out the schematics, so I might try that, but any else out there that sounds good?
Just want to try something different and use what I got and save some $$$.
Thanks
Jeff

Hi jeff, The Garnet BTO uses the 6SN7 in the PI. :icon_biggrin:

ampegs are cool to try. but you can use the 6SL7 in any amp you would use a 12AX7.

ampeg b15n or valco 1948 oahu.

The early to mid-50's 5B2 Princeton (http://www.el34world.com/charts/Schematics/files/fender/PRINCETON_5B2.pdf) uses a 6SL7 in the preamp.

Take a look at the Fender 5B3. The schematic will show 6SC7's for the preamp and the PI but you can use the 6SL7's in place of the 6SC7's. The pin out is a little different but not much..There are only two changes. the connection at pin 3 of the SC moves to pin 1 of the SL and then jump pin 3 of the SL to pin 6. All's there is to it.

Thanks for all the suggestions, especially turning me on to Ampeg. I was just looking through the schematics and looks like they used those alot. I think I'll go with the reverberocket. Looks cool and I always wanted to try the transformerless reverb. I need a high impedance tank, right? It's listed as a "C" but I'm pretty sure that's not the same as accutronics C. I'd use an Accutronic "F" tank right?
Also I'll try the 5B3 cuz I got the parts.
Couldn't find valco 1948 oahu schematic
Thanks again.

apologies for the goose chase, it's the 1948 supro.
amp below looks like fun... SJ7, SL7, SN7 all favorites of mine in a simple plan... seriously thinking about breadboarding it. :-)

I picked up an adapter that goes from 12AX7 pin configuration to 6SL7. I've tried it in many amps from Fender to Marshall in every position. Without changing a thing, the 6SL7 and the 6SN7 worked very well in these circuits. The biggest issue with those Octals is getting a quiet one.

"The biggest issue with those Octals is getting a quiet one."
This is an issue..It is the reason I changed from the 6SC7 to the 6SL7. That plus you can get the 6SL7 as a new production tube..I had a lot of trouble with the NOS 6SC7's being microphonic and the NOS 6SL7 having some mechanical rattle in them. I have tried both the Sovtek and the Tung-Sol new production 6SL7's and actually prefer the cheaper Sovtek in the 5E3 circuit.

True about NOS octal preamp tubes, those that are noisy and those that will be shortly...
