Naw not an expensive one! A GuitarWorks A type with an oval soundhole in link below. I've been playing an old Kay for years but always felt that it may be hindering my progress because of its lack of playablility up on the neck. This new one is an improvement in tone and playablility. For some reason I've been doing a lot of mandolin playing lately. I think this was inspired by my trip to Asheville NC hearing all the acoustic musicians. Even though I'm a Bluesrock burner on guitar, I do have streak of bluegrass in me. Also mando can be applied to more contemporary songs in a very tastefull way when applied correctly. So I was wondering if there were any other forum guitar players that are also into mando? Hi Plate--I usually maul a Les Paul but play a mandola for most of our church music ministry functions. There usually are more than enough guitars so it adds a litltle color to the songs. I use it only as compliment to the guitar rhythm and can occasionally doodle here and there between phrases. (The older parishoners love it.) My ever humble opinion is that it is a great compliment though must be used sparingly as a madola begins to sound like a drone after about a half dozen songs. I have used it and kinda like it for some Tom Petty and some early Beatles stuff. Regards

Har! I'm also involved in Praise and Worship at Church where I punish my Epi LP Studio pretty serverely. Havn't carried my mando operations outside my house so far. I can see possibly working it in the song services after I get a little more proficent. Learning a lot of new cords and runs here lately.
What kind of mando have you got? Here is a picture of mine. The old Kay is the light one and GuitarWorks the darker one. Platefire

Nice mandolins Plate. I found this about 5 years ago from a Taiwan ebayer. I was originally looking for an cheap inlayed neck for a frankenstrat--and there was this mandola for less than it cost to ship it. I kinda thought it was a blem. Even from a sweatshop. Inlay is kinda cool--very dragon orientated. Go figure. It sounds pretty good considering.
My fingers are too big and clumsy to play a mandolin. I'll bet that you will enjoy the occasional change. And I am pretty sure that St. Paul's here is happy there is one less guitar competing for airspace. :icon_biggrin: Regards

That's a cool looking mando. Even the tail plate is a Dragon design! I've came close to bidding on a F style mando on e-bay made by JB Player but the seller would never respond to my questions, so I didn't bid. I went with the GuitarWorks mando because the seller had 35 year experiance of repair set up experiance and garenteed a low action set up. My hands and fingers are small compared to some guys, so works pretty good for mando.
On inlays, I've got a Jay Turser DLPH Dolphine guitar I picked up at a pawn shop in like new condition. It's a PRS type body design but has Dolphine inlays in the body and neck. I was looking at their guitars and they pointed out that this guitar was on sale for $99.00 because it didn't make a sound. Sure enough I plugged it into a amp and it wouldn't make a sound. I went ahead and bought it on a chance that it was a simple electronic problem. Sure enough after I got it home, the volume pots were bad. I ordered some new from Stu Mac, put them in and it works perfect. I think Dragons are more cooler than Dolphines but guess they are OK, the inlay work looks pretty good. This would be like the perfect guitar if a band was playing at Sea World ;>/Here is some pixs. Plate
