Ok, this never happens to me....until today!
Ran across a yard sale and I noticed some ham radio antennas in the yard. The guy had a huge garbage bag full of tubes, most are new in box. He said there might be a few used ones, but he checked them all and they were good. We talked for about an hour and he told me to just take them and by the way, here is my old Sylvania tube tester. He said that he knew they would be going to a good home and I would appreciate what's there. I tried several times to give him something and he would not do it. He's 93 and was a radio operator in WW2. I wish I could have spent a couple hours talking with him - but I had to run. Bummer.
Now for the BAD news.... Right before I got there he sold 4 full tube caddies with "amplifier tubes that you could have used, like 6L6, 6V6, 6550, KT66, AND........KT88's"!!!!!!!! Ohhhhhhhhhhhmannnnnnnnn :BangHead: All new in boxes "from the 60's and 70's". All four caddies for $40.00........... :sad2:
Now for my haul :icon_biggrin:
Just a quick peak and there were about a dozen 1625's and about four or five old coke bottle 6V6's new in box. Lots of recto tubes. Also found a few nixie tubes and some magic eye tubes. I've just scratched the surface. When I get time to inventory, I will lay them all out in the living room to make my wife happy! :icon_biggrin:

He'd be quite a guy to talk to, for sure. So often we young uns (well, I'm almost 49) overlook the elderly, but I've found they have a lot to say of value if you're willing to listen.

That's kind of a mixed blessing to get that given to you but missed the big haul by a hair. Don't guess you've had time to try out the tube tester? Plarefire
