Title: Stumper by the PT again.. Help...
Post by: crashtm1 on October 02, 2012, 07:12:25 pm
I need some help with the PT hook up...
Here is what I have done...
My Red wires (350V) are hooked up.. along with the red/y center tap...
Black and Brown (120V) are hooked up....
Green/y is going to the star ground..

 Thats it....
I need the 6v supply , heaters, pilot.. etc... From the Ceriatone layout, everything on the top side of the tranny...
 Hopefull ythe pics help..

 Thanks!

Looks like Grn. 12 and Grn. 14 are the heaters. Grn./Yel. 13 is the heater CT.

Gry 10 and Gry 11 are for a bias supply.

The 3.15 and 3.15 leads look to be the filament/pilot light connection (3.15VAC + 3.15VAC = 6.3VAC) marked F and F on the transformer picture.

What amp is this?

It looks like the Ceriatone layout indicates a center-tapped heater winding (3.15-0-3.15, or 6.3v CT), with a 60v bias winding (60, 0) and a second 6v winding for perhaps a rectifier heater (listed as 6, 0).

You don't appear to have a 6v or 5v heater winding, so hopefully you're using a solid-state rectifier instead.

Yes, it's the HRM Bluesmaster 100w,, no recto.

Let me see if I'mm on track.

I've got the 2 greens going to the heaters, pilot, ... and its CT going to ground...

The 2 greys (98V) to bias supply....???
Would this be the 2 yellow wires on the layout?  I see that one yellow (60) goes to a 1.2K resistor on the bias board.. The other (0) to the star ground..   Is this correct?

If this is correct, Im still missing the 2 red wires coming from the trannie (6,0) and landing on the small board with the 3x 1000uf caps.

The 2 drawings in your 1'st post seem to be 2 different PT's?

The 1'st drawing (spec sheet) shows colored/numbered fly leads and the 2'nd shows no fly leads but solder tags. The 2'nd drawing has a 6v wind that looks like goes to a voltage doubler and then to a 12v regulator. The 1'st drawing (spec sheet) shows no such 6v wind. Also the 1'st shows a 2 wire 98v bias wind 2'nd shows a 50v 2 wire bias wind.

I think that's where your getting confused? Which one do you actually have?

The colored layout is from the Ceriatone site using their tranny.
the black and white is from the Classic Tone tranny I'm actually using.

The Classictone transformer has a 98v bias winding and the Ceriatone bias supply is set up for a 60v bias tap.
You will need to take a look at a 100 watt marshall bias supply and make the necessary changes in resistors and caps to get the proper bias voltage.Other than that the hookup is pretty straightforward.
6.3v is heaters. You use the heater windings for the relay supply also. The Ceriatone transformer has two windings, one for heaters and another for the relay power supply.

OK, than that's the 1 you gotta go with.

I've got the 2 greens going to the heaters, pilot, ... and its CT going to ground...

That seems right to me.

The 2 greys (98V) to bias supply....???
Would this be the 2 yellow wires on the layout?  I see that one yellow (60) goes to a 1.2K resistor on the bias board.. The other (0) to the star ground..   Is this correct?

The grays are for the raw bias, but you can use a full wave/half bridge instead of the standard half wave/half bridge because your PT has a dedicated bias wind. I would go with the FWHB as it will be a little quieter because the filter cap refresh rate is double than that of the HWHB. Your PT doesn't have a star ground solder connection on the PT itself.

I'm still missing the 2 red wires coming from the tranny (6,0) and landing on the small board with the 3x 1000uf caps.

The Ceriatone layout is a little different because it has a 6v wind for a relay? Your PT does not have that wind. If you need a dcv for relays you'll have to get it some where else, like from the heaters.

Tubenit just posted a very full and helpful page on this. Doug also has info on this in his tube amp library on information, which IIRC Tubenit re-posted some of the same info? Read them both. Here's a link;

Your going to have to sort out these things a little to move forward. You might have to redraw the layout, at least any changes because of the 2 different PT's.

6VDC?  or AC?

6VDC?  or AC?

The relay needs dcv.

Read this thread this will answer a lot of questions.
